IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Family

Jan, Les, Paige

We started our Easter weekend by spending the time with our family. Since Jadyn had her birthday on Friday, I wanted to get into town on Saturday in time to take her shopping and have lunch. We had a lot of fun shopping together, although our tastes are completely opposite. After all, she is twelve and I am seventy-two! But we did come up with some cute outfits that we both liked. After shopping, Jadyn discovered that she had left her cell phone in the restroom at the mall. But, by the time she went back to look for it, someone had taken it. She was so disappointed. She called her Mom and by chance, Lara has an app on her cell phone that can trace the location of Jadyn's phone. Lara was all over the mall, trying to recover the cell phone by the signal but unfortunately, the thieves turned the cell off and she lost the signal. So, Granddad felt sorry for her and between her father and G-Dad, they found a "used" cell phone that would work for her. This isn't the first cell phone that Jadyn has had to replace, so she is lucky that the guys came to her rescue! It didn't come without a price though. As she was given the phone, she also got a "grandfatherly" lecture about taking responsibility for her valuables. We'll see if it stuck! Whenever I take the girls out birthday shopping, we also go to Red Robin for ice cream, a birthday song and a photo. We waited and waited for Jadyn's ice cream and it never got there. So we got up and left. That's why there's no photo of the birthday celebration with grandma. She says she still had a good time even with no song, no ice cream and despite losing her phone.

Eggs

The night before, the granddaughters were busy dying eggs and getting ready for Easter. Then on Easter we had a nice family dinner and celebrated two birthdays. It was Jadyn's birthday on Friday (April 3rd); she turned twelve and my other granddaughter Paige's birthday was Thursday (April 9th); she turned thirteen. It worked out great as getting everyone together is a major job.

We stayed over because on Monday we got our taxes done, ran a few errands and worked in a doctor's appointment. While we were shopping we decided to check out the new Cabela's store in Tualatin. When we pulled in to the parking lot, we saw an unusual sight you don't see every day. A man was walking past us carrying a rifle. Of course he was headed for Cabela's, which is an "outdoorsy - type" sporting goods store. But just the same, it made me feel a little uneasy seeing someone carrying a gun around in the middle of town. When all this happened, we were in the parking lot talking to Greg on the speaker phone. We were talking about Jadyn's phone and suddenly Dave pointed out that there was a guy with a gun walking right in front of our car. Greg had no idea where we were and as soon as he heard Dave's comment, I think he was ready to call 911. We had to quickly explain where we were and that it wasn't all that unusual to see people walking around with hunting gear around there.

Elk

This week has been busy with the usual stuff. Since we have had pretty nice weather, I worked in the park on Wednesday. A bunch of us met in this little "pocket park" which has been ignored because it is sort of out of the way. It was overgrown and so we pruned the hedge, dug up a few half dead shrubs and put in some new plants. It made all the difference. There were about six of us that worked and it didn't take very long to get the park to look nice and inviting once again.

The elk have been grazing on the island in front of our place most of the week. There are still no new calves that we can see. There are about 25 cows in the herd and we haven't spotted any bulls amongst them unless they shed their antlers in the winter. We're pretty sure that this group is just the "girls" waiting for the babies to get here. We are so fortunate to be able to enjoy so much wild life where we live.

I hesitate to mention this, but we were able to get the rain gutters cleaned while the weather was nice yesterday. I know that when my girls read about this that we will never hear the end of it. We "old folks" are not supposed to be climbing up ladders and we are lucky we don't fall. We have decided that this fall, we will invest in some new gutters that don't require cleaning and it will take the worry out of climbing up the ladder once and for all.

First thing next Monday, the carpenter is coming by to put in my new kitchen window. I am so excited and am looking forward to having a full view out my kitchen window once more. It has been six months since a bird decided to fly into the old window and shattered the glass.
