IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Primroses

Flowers

Just enjoying this nice "spring-like" weather we are having and wanting to be outdoors. The soil has been a little wet to pull up many weeds but I am warming up the old clippers to get ready to do some pruning. I have already resigned myself that I will not be planting a vegetable garden this year. We will be gone for most of the summer on our European trip and I would only frustrate myself thinking of my neglected garden at home. I did manage to make a run to 7-Dees Nursery on Sunday to take advantage of their sale on primroses, plus I had a 10% discount coupon on top of that! I came home with a dozen primroses which I promptly planted in my planters on the fence. I wanted a little color besides the daffodils and daphne that is blooming in the yard right now.

We had a nice quiet Valentine's Day. Dave got me a bouquet of flowers and a nice card. I fixed a nice dinner for us as we knew that most of the places around here were all booked for dinner reservations. A few years ago, we managed to get identical cards for each other. Since that time I've noticed that we now tend to get "husband" and "wife" specific cards which of course takes care of that problem!

Jordyn

We drove into Portland on Monday as we had a belated birthday party for our 7-year old granddaughter, Jordyn. She actually turned seven while we were on our road trip and since everyone had President's Day off, we decided to throw a family party. I made the famous macaroni salad which Jordyn has to fight her grandfather for (it's one of his favorites too). I guess the apple doesn't fall far from that tree! We also had Subway sandwiches, chips and of course birthday cake. Before everyone said their goodbyes, we had a group hug (for the ones leaving).

After the party, we squeezed in a trip to start the process of getting our taxes prepared. Our long-time accountant passed away last year, so we are going to start going to a new CPA firm to get this done. The thing is, this accountant is the grand-daughter of Dave's cousin! Now that DOES make us feel old!

Later that afternoon, I took Jordyn out for our traditional birthday shopping trip and dinner at Red Robin. I had to squeeze this trip in between some other activities she had going on that day, gymnastics and swimming. She found this darling dress and sweater and she had to have the kitten ear muffs. My motto, whatever the granddaughters want, just ask Grandma and it's yours!!

We spent the night in town as Dave had a doctor's appointment with his oncologist the next day. He also had to have a CT scan and have his blood drawn. But first, since his appointments weren't until 11:30 that day, Dave wanted to go to the VA hospital and get enrolled for some additional benefits that he is entitled to. We know it is always crowded there, so we got there around 9:15 to be there early enough to find a parking place and to get in line and pick a number. Surprisingly, we found a parking place without too much problem and didn't have to wait too long before our number was called once we got into the enrollment office. As it turned out, we were done with the VA in a half an hour so we had plenty of time to spare. So we drove up the hill to OHSU and found another parking space close to our next appointment. We had his blood drawn and found where we were to have the CT scan. It was a two hour wait to complete that test, and after it was done, we found the cafeteria, ate some lunch and headed over to the oncologist appointment which was scheduled for 2:30. She gave us the great news that the results of all of his tests looked great and said she would see him again in three months. As Dave says - it's always great to see your oncologist when she's smiling! By the time it was all done, the day was shot and we headed back home before the traffic got real bad. Dave had an early City Council meeting Tuesday night and so we were anxious to get home and grab a bite to eat before the meeting at 6:00. It was quite a full day for us.

The rest of the week has been uneventful. The weather turned cloudy with sprinkles by Thursday but the weatherman promises a nice sunny weekend. Hopefully, I will get some pruning done. That having been said - I really do feel bad for our friends on the east coast. I hope you thaw out real soon!
