IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Wreaths

Well, the countdown begins with Christmas just around the corner and as usual, I am not ready. We have received cards in the mail and our neighbors have their outside lights aglow. But, I am working on it.

Dave got the outside lights going which was pretty easy for him as all he had to do was hook up a couple of power cords and then flip a switch. We are among those people who leave the lights up all year around because it is so hard for us to climb up on a ladder to hang them.

The garden club had our annual wreath making party on Tuesday in the barn at Alder Creek Farm and about fifteen members came with all kinds of greens from holly, fir, cedar and shore pine trees. We had a great time and it was fun to see how creative some of the members could get. It was a little chilly in the barn but we all knew that was going to be the case and everyone dressed accordingly. I made a wreath, put a big red bow on it and hung it outside on the front of the deck so it can be seen from the road.

Wheeler Decoration

For the Park and Rec committee's weekly work party on Wednesday, a bunch of us got together and decorated the train station in the park with lights. We had a nice turnout and even had some people helping who aren't regular members of the group. We decorate the park every year, although we did scale back a little this time. In addition to the station, we used to decorate some of the trees and bushes in the park, but some of the lights didn't work when we plugged them in this time, so we decided to concentrate on the station itself and make it look good. I think it looks real nice. The city has put up their new decorations on the power poles, so the town is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The old decorations were several years old and were all worn out and some of the lights were missing so it was time to get new ones. Some people very generously donated the money to get new ones, and the place is looking very festive!

House Decorations

Since I had been decorating all week and was still in the mood, I decided to crawl up in the attic and bring the inside Christmas decorations downstairs. I spent most of Thursday morning getting the inside looking all festive. I still have gifts to buy and I have cards and letters to write, but getting the house all nice and festive should help me get going. I am sure glad that December has an extra weekend. Speaking of weekends, this weekend there are three bazaars that I plan on attending so maybe I can whittle down my list just a little more.

Chairs

Oh, I mentioned last week that we bought new La-Z-Boy recliners a while back and they were delivered a couple of weeks ago. The new recliners are larger than our old ones (the others were 3/4 size) so we had to move some furniture around to make things fit before they delivered them. We ended up putting the new chairs where the sofa used to be and moved all of the tables around. Of course, the sofa is now where the old recliners were - there are only so many places that will fit. It took us most of the day to get things moved to their new locations. It was a lot of work for just buying two new chairs. These chairs are really nice and comfortable and they fit us better than the old ones did.

Those of you who have been long-time readers of this journal (thank you!) may remember that I would often add a section at the end of some of the entries called, "Give me a Break!" I haven't done that for quite a while, but I think it may be time to resurrect it - just to give me a chance to rant! A few weeks ago, my kitchen window was broken. The only thing we can think of was that a really big bird flew into it. We boarded it up and called a window repair company. That was the easy part. It has now been several weeks and I still have a broken window! First, we had trouble getting the company we called to return our calls. We didn't think too much of it because it's "the coastal way". It seems like nobody EVER returns calls down here. We sent them one last message and they finally scheduled a time for someone to come look at our windows. I said "windows" because there are several that should be upgraded to thermal windows and I wanted them to look at all of them and give us an idea of what it was going to cost to replace them. Since I knew what I wanted - and Dave didn't - he put me in charge of the project. That was fine, but when the guy finally showed up, it was early morning and I was still at my water aerobics class. Dave pointed to some windows and the guy wrote down some measurements and was gone before I got home. We waited and waited and when we finally got the estimate from them, nothing was right! They didn't even have the right number of windows and the ones they did have were the wrong color. So, I called them back and were told they would return to re-do the estimate this last Thursday. Well, he came back on Thursday and once again, he was here and gone before I got home from class. Since Dave hadn't been paying that much attention to what I wanted, he was no help when it came to holding down the fort with the window guy. Instead of ordering the three windows I wanted, he ordered one - the broken one in the kitchen. I wasn't real pleased to get that news when I got home. The final straw came when we got the estimate for the three windows (they finally got that right) but they were still the wrong color! You may have heard me scream in frustration from where you are!! I'm pretty sure we're going to shop around some more and Dave isn't going to be allowed to talk to any more window people!

Speaking of Dave, he has his final performance of the Churchill presentation this Saturday afternoon. Since I have already seen it once, I think I will do my holiday bazaar shopping while he is doing that.
