IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Teunis & Pat

We had a couple of surprise visitors this week. Dave's cousin, Pat and her husband Teunis dropped in to see us on Sunday. They have to spend a lot of their time at the ranch and so it was nice to see them in our neighborhood - even if just for a while. It was Teunis' daughter's 40th birthday and they had come to Manzanita to celebrate with several of her friends. Sunday morning, while everyone else was still sleeping in, Pat and Teunis slipped away and paid us a quick visit. We told them that in about two weeks we would be returning the favor. We are planning a trip to The Dalles and then on over to their neighborhood above White Salmon. Another cousin, Rodger Nichols who works at a radio station in The Dalles has been asking Dave for an interview about his life with the Blazers for quite some time (we were delayed by cancer) and so they finally made some plans to get together on the last weekend of this month. The Dalles really hasn't been a destination for us in the past and we have often driven by on the freeway thinking we should stop sometime. So we're planning to spend a couple of days up there. It really looks like an interesting little town and so I will report later on our adventure.

On Monday, Dave and I went our separate ways. He headed into Portland to attend a broadcast meeting with the Trail Blazers. Although he is not engineering the games anymore, he still has his finger in the organization as he hires the broadcast engineers for the Blazers' road games. He enjoyed his meeting as all his co-workers were there and everyone is getting geared up for the upcoming season.
I in turn, headed up north to Warrenton to get the oil changed in the Jeep and then stopped to load up on groceries at Fred Meyer. We both got home about the same time that afternoon.

Boats

The fishermen are still out in the bay each day and we have seen a couple of big ones get caught. I think the fishing season lasts until around the end of October and then our peaceful town will get back to normal. A friend of Dave's has asked him to go fishing and we hope that works out - maybe next week. Nothing tastes better than a fresh salmon straight out of Nehalem Bay.

Speaking of wildlife, we have been watching this spider that has made herself a lovely web on our front window. It is interesting to see what gets entangled in the web and how she gathers it up for future meals. We have also been watching the Egrets that have been fishing in the bay in front of our place. I posted a picture of them when they were over on the island a couple of weeks ago, but this one was right in front of the house. They sure have more patience that I would have if I had to rely on my meals that way.

We had our friends, Harv and Kim Lillegard come by on their way home from a steam meet at 10-Mile Lakes down by Reedsport on Tuesday. They were planning to be here for lunch on Wednesday but since the weather turned bad for steamboating, they cut their trip short and came by early. Since they had their boat with them, we met them down at the Wheeler dock and had a half hour or so for a nice visit before they headed home.

I am rejoicing as we finally had a nice shower of rain this week. The sound of raindrops falling on the roof was music to my ears. I didn't have to water! Things have been so dry and even the foliage was happy. Fall season will start next week and the days are getting shorter and the nights longer.

Dave has been keeping himself busier than he has been for the past year. He's been working on a couple of computer projects that were delayed because he was sick. And he has also been out in the shop working on some other things that he wasn't able to get to because of the bout with cancer. He says it feels good to be able to get out and get thing done again.
