IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

”Collage2”

I hope everyone is enjoying these warm fall days. It has been beautiful here, but for the past couple of days it has been quite windy and I could hear the wind chimes tinkling early this morning. We usually don't have the wind come up until later in the day. The weather guy says it should only last a couple of days and then be nice again for the weekend.

It's been a busy week for me. We started out after breakfast last Saturday by heading for Salem to watch our second granddaughter, Paige play her soccer game and to celebrate the two birthdays that we had earlier - my oldest granddaughter, Ashtin who turned 15 on August 29th and Dave who turned 72 on September 3rd. So we gathered at Red Robin in Salem for a family fest before watching the game. The soccer game was fun especially because Paige scored 3 of her team's 6 goals and also because they won. I love watching her play. She's so quick that it's hard to get a picture of her in action, so we took a photo of her teammates congratulating her after one of her goals. After the celebrations, we headed back to the coast from a very hot 90 degrees to a cool 65 degrees in a matter of 2 hours!

Since Ashtin turned 15 and now has her learning permit to drive, she has been practicing. While we were there on Saturday, she drove her Aunt Lara's car to the soccer game and managed to make it there safe and sound. She is pretty responsible, so one of these times we will let her try driving our car. She has been playing soccer on the Silverton varsity team and is enjoying that. Her Mom will be glad when she has her driving license so she won't have to taxi her to all the practice games, but that's at least a year away.

While I am on the subject of granddaughters, my other three, Jadyn, Jaysa and Jordyn have been busy with school. They are all thrilled with their teachers this year. In church on Sunday they were all blessed and then helped package up food and school supplies for the needy in Africa.

Tuesday was full of commitments. I ran into Tillamook to attend the Master Gardener's monthly board meeting in the morning. I always like to keep up with what they are up to. The meeting was over at noon and then I raced to Nehalem to a class on memory that started at 1:00 (no time for lunch). This is a 12-week course that the North Coast Recreational District is having on how to keep your memory skills up and what causes memory loss (I think it is too late for me). Anyway, it is very interesting and I am impressed by the class. The class lasted a couple of hours and I had to immediately get home as I had scheduled a neighborhood potluck get-together at my house that evening. I am the neighborhood captain for emergency preparedness and I wanted to get the whole street together to introduce a couple of new couples who had moved into our neighborhood. It was a lot of fun and we had almost a full attendance. I served two kinds of soups and everyone else brought salads, desserts or breads. We had plenty to eat and everyone enjoyed themselves. We hope to do it again.

Thursday was an Emergency Volunteer Corps communications drill. Since I am a captain for our neighborhood and Dave is a ham radio operator, we both participated. The drill was for all three communities - Wheeler, Nehalem and Manzanita. Wheeler's contribution was to do a damage assessment in the neighborhood after an earthquake and then report to the command center. It went pretty good and afterwards we all met at the Fire Station in Manzanita for a wrap up meeting and lunch.

Thursday was also a special day for Dave and I. It happened to be our 49th wedding anniversary. I can't believe how the time has gone and all the special memories we have shared over the years. When you first get married you can't imagine what your life has in store for you. I have been pretty lucky as I married a great guy and our love has grown through the years.
