IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Another week of labor around here!

Over the weekend, I emptied the rest of the gravel from the trailer onto the tractor for Dave to help me finish the rest of the pathway project that I started last week. Then, on Monday - as if we hadn't seen enough gravel, we had a truckload delivered to our upper driveway. Dave and I spent most of the day spreading it out. He used the Kubota to move it around and I used the rake to get it where it needed to be. It took most of the day and we still have the lower driveway to do! Needless to say, both of us were pretty tired by sundown.

I also pulled weeds along our side of Gamble Street which took me a couple of days. These weeds sure can take over in a hurry if you don't keep on top of them. Now all I need to do is get a load of bark dust to spread on that area along the street. I think I will save that job for next week!

I do take time out once in awhile and do a few fun things too. The Alder Creek Farm had a vegetable sale and I needed to pick up a few vegetables for my garden. I came home with some tomato and cucumber plants. I have my garden all planted now and some of the seeds are already starting to surface. At least the beans that the crows didn't manage to pull up and I had to replant. My beet row is a little crooked but that's because the cats got in there and spread the dirt around. The lettuce looks great and is about ready to go into a salad. Now I spend my time watering everything!

Dave and I took in a dinner theater last Saturday night. The local theater group staged "Funeral for a Gangster" while we ate lasagna. It was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of our friends - not only the ones that were in the play but also those watching along with us.

I put in some time on Wednesday at our weekly civic work party. The girls and I pulled weeds and pruned shrubs up by City Hall and then took a look at the Waterfront Park. It had been a couple of weeks since we had worked in that park and all the flower beds were in full bloom. It was so beautiful and worth all the work we have put into doing this. Everyone that comes to the park while we are there says how great it looks. It makes me feel proud.

The landscapers were back on Thursday to put in a second retaining wall. There was too much of a slope to really plant anything after the first retaining wall was installed so we asked them to put in another shorter wall to eliminate the slope. They spent most of the afternoon digging out dirt and I even heard a chain saw so they must have had to dig up some roots from the old cedar hedge that we had taken out a couple of years ago. Once they get the wall done, then the fun begins by putting in plants. I can hardly wait!

This weekend is going to be busy. We have our annual City-sponsored clean-up day on Saturday. Everyone in Wheeler is invited to bring their recyclables and trash to a dumpster to be disposed of that day. The City offers this service free to anyone in the city and it has been a great success over the years. It has helped get rid of a lot of trash that would otherwise collect on people's property.

On Sunday we are expecting some friends who will be spending the night. They are a couple of steamers who have been down south. One of them will have his boat so maybe we will be able to take a steamboat ride. They're looking at Garibaldi, so we may be on Tillamook Bay. They are dropping by on their way home up north as Dave has some diesel oil to give them to use on their boat.

I managed to injure myself this week. I only mention this because of my carelessness. I was putting away some tools in the boat barn where we have several tools hanging from hooks on a pegboard wall. I managed to bump a pitchfork off a peg and it came crashing down and the steel neck on the thing hit my right shoulder. I was lucky it missed my head and didn't break anything but it sure did hurt! I woke up Thursday morning with numbness in my arm and fingers, I went to the doctor. I am okay but it sure is sore.
