IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Paige

Rain

We had a fun-filled weekend. It stated out last Friday night by going to dinner at the Big Wave in Manzanita and then watching a great performance at the Coaster Theater in Cannon Beach. We had heard great reviews about the play called "Present Laughter" and a friend of ours was in the cast. It was everything they said it was going to be, and we enjoyed the performance very much. That was our second theater experience in two weeks, so it will be a while before we take in another one.

Saturday morning we got up and left for Salem to watch Paige, our twelve-year old granddaughter play her soccer game. We brought ponchos and umbrellas because rain was in the forecast. We weren't disappointed either; there were times when it absolutely poured! Paige's team ended up losing the game, and the opposition was all over her. Her reputation as a soccer player has gotten around and most of the time she was double and even triple-teamed. After the game, Paige and I headed for Red Robin for a late birthday lunch. She turned twelve on April 9th. Later that afternoon, Dave and Jason fixed the blower on the heat exchanger for their fireplace and we were treated to a toasty wood fire that evening. We spent the night in Silverton as we were having Easter dinner with the entire family the next day. Jason is a great cook and made this wonderful ham dinner. I brought a macaroni salad, Lara made her famous deviled eggs and Leslie made dinner rolls. We stuffed ourselves.

Pigs

Cousins

While we were at the Alexander's home, we checked out their four pigs that the girls are getting ready to show again this year at the fair. They each are raising two pigs and they sure have grown since the last time we saw them. I still don't know how they can raise these darling piglets and then turn around and eat them later!
We also took advantage of the fact that we had all five grandgirls together in one spot. It seems like that only happens a couple of times a year, so we got a picture. I love these group photos!

After our dinner, we drove back home. We have had lots of rain again this week but I managed to get in a little yard work in between showers. We have this raccoon that has been stealing the cat food so I have been monitoring the cat's dish to make sure that they get some of the food. Dave has been patrolling with his trusty B-B gun and has managed to discourage Mr. Raccoon - at least for now!

Also, on Tuesday the crew showed up with the cement blocks to start building our retaining wall. They only worked a couple of hours and then left and we haven't seen them since! It was raining pretty hard on Wednesday so I understand why they didn't come back then, but they could have done a little more this week - it was nice enough on Thursday. Besides, the concrete blocks are stacked on the sidewalk and are blocking the way and I am sure the City isn't too pleased with that. Dave is getting upset because he can't even get them to return his phone calls and tell him when they plan to return. I sure would like to get this project done.

Birds

The little Goldfinches are back! There must be a couple of dozen of them out among the feeders and I love hearing their little song that they sing.

Next week I will be pretty busy helping the Master Gardener's get ready for their annual plant sale which is next Saturday in Tillamook. I won't be able to be at the actual sale so I am helping with the setup. I have grown some cucumber and snow peas and I also divided some Japanese Iris and Hosta to donate for the sale. The next weekend (Mother's Day) our local Nehalem Bay Garden Club is having their plant sale so I am up to my elbows in plant sales for awhile.
