IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Phyllis

We had another full schedule last weekend. We started out on Friday night by watching a performance at the TAPA Playhouse in Tillamook. It was a comedy "A Little Murder Never Hurt Anyone". We're always pleasantly surprised when we realize how much talent there is on our little towns. This was a troupe of six actors who put on a flawless performance. It re-affirmed our decision to drop our membership at the "big theater" in Ashland and support our local theaters instead. They're doing great! Speaking of Ashland, on Saturday we attended a book signing party by a friend of ours, Phyllis Sanderson. This was her first book "Remembered My Way, Act I" that she has written. It was about her childhood days in Aiken, South Carolina. Phyllis is a remarkable person. We first met her when she ran a Bed and Breakfast in Wheeler. She was a professional actress and performed many times in Ashland where we saw her at the Shakespeare Festival. In fact, if you ever visit Ashland there is a statue of the various actors and actress located at the Information Center in the center of downtown and she is one of the actresses. She also directed our local Reader's Theater. She has since left Wheeler and has moved back to southern Oregon. It was good to see her again and to know she is doing well.

Paige

Ashtin

After we left the book signing party, we headed into Beaverton to watch our granddaughter Paige play in a soccer game. She is always fun to watch (she scored two of the four goals) and after the game we left to spend the night with her family in Silverton. We had promised her sister, Ashtin that we would watch a basketball tournament that she was playing in and that was scheduled for the next morning down south in Lebanon. She enjoys playing basketball and had specifically asked that we come and watch. So we got to see at least two of our granddaughters play their games this weekend. While we were watching Ashtin, we heard that a third granddaughter (Lara's daughter Jaysa) scored a goal in her soccer game. All in all, it was a pretty good weekend for our grandgirls!

After the basketball game, we left Lebanon and decided to go home via Corvallis to Newport and then up the coast. It was a beautiful day and a nice drive. Before we got home we stopped in Lincoln City at the Dory Cove for their famous clam chowder. Dave had forgotten to bring his coffee mug with him which he likes to have while he is driving. So we thought we could find a coffee stop along the way and get him a cup. You know, those little coffee kiosks along the way? Well, when you are looking for them they are always evasive. We would spot one and didn't have time to turn into their place. The little sandwich board signs were usually right in front of their establishment, too late to turn. Dave finally got a cup of coffee when we stopped for clam chowder.

We got some sad news on Monday. Our friend (and our tax preparer) who we have known for most of our married lives died from a heart attack. He was our age and way too young for him to go. He was fit too, always running and watching his weight. It was really a shock and makes you think about life. Luckily, we had just seen him about a month prior and he had already taken care of our taxes. I understand that he was in the process of training his son-in-law to take over his business. Matt will continue his education to be a Certified Public Accountant and we will probably stay with him for our taxes. We will miss our old friend just the same.

Ashtin

Ashtin makes the journal twice this week. Not only for her basketball game, but because she got her braces off on Thursday! She has such a beautiful smile now (just like her mother) and I am sure it boosted her morale a little to have them removed. The orthodontist gave her a "Congrats" balloon for her accomplishments. Leslie says it's the least he could do for the thousands of dollars he made off those braces! Ashtin will be fifteen in August and is already reading up to get her learner's permit so she can drive. I was giving her some pointers the last time I saw her like when the light turns yellow, "go faster" and if a policeman pulls you over and asks you if you knew how fast you were driving you could tell him "not fast enough because you caught up with me!" I don't think her parents liked my sense of humor, especially her dad as he is a policeman!

Since the weather has been so crummy most of the week, I had to cancel the work party on Wednesday. It is just too darn cold and wet to work outside. We had some pretty low temperatures overnight down here and I am glad that I didn't let the sunny weather last weekend tempt me into planting any flowers on my deck. I have lots of things growing in the greenhouse and in fact the shelves that Dave made for me are pretty much filled to overflowing right now.

The plans for this coming weekend are: We are going to see another play tonight - this time in Cannon Beach at the Coaster Theater. Then Saturday we will get up early and drive to Salem to watch Paige play another soccer game. After that I am taking her out for a belated birthday lunch. She turned twelve on April 9th and I always like to take my granddaughters out for a special treat on their birthday. We will spend the night in Silverton and have Easter dinner with all the family before we head back home.

Happy Easter Everyone!
