IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Boy, where did the month of February go? It seems like time is really slipping by but with March on the way, that means Spring will be here. I am ready for that. I already have daffodils in bloom and lots of birds are arriving at the feeders. I also got some marigold seeds planted for the plant sale in May.

Shelter Class

I spent last Saturday in a Red Cross Sheltering class. I had taken the class before but wanted to refresh myself. The only thing I don't like about the class is the enormous amount of paperwork that is involved. I hate filling out forms anyway but I can see their point as to keeping track of inventory and clients that are involved. I guess with the snow storm that we had a couple of weeks prior, we had some travelers that were left stranded because of the road conditions. So, the city of Nehalem opened up City Hall and Manzanita opened up a local church to aid some of the people that were stranded. It was a good awaking call and got some of the locals anxious about what to do. I don't know why I bother as I wasn't around the area (which has happened a couple of times) when the emergency came up so I wasn't able to participate. We were in Portland this time and the time before that I was in Phoenix when we had an emergency.

Monday, we drove into Tillamook as Dave had to get his blood checked at the hospital. He had a much higher blood count this time so everyone was happy about that. Dave is feeling a lot better too and is even able to help around the house a little bit. He is sleeping well at night and his appetite has returned. He has even started picking up some of the projects that he had to put aside during these last few months. The past couple of days he has worked so hard in his shop that he has had to come in and take an afternoon nap! Today we are having his PET scan and will find out the results of those tests on March 5th. We are sure glad this chapter in our lives is behind us.

Jan, Marge, Tom

We had some dear steamboat friends drop by for an over-nighter on Tuesday. Tom and Marge Kane had been traveling in Southern California (Palm Springs) for the last six weeks and were on their way back north to Bainbridge Island where they live. We talked them into dinner and a bed before they finished their journey the following day. It was nice to see them and get caught up with their lives. They will be returning the favor when we go up north in a couple of weeks to attend the Northwest Steam Society general meeting and will spend the night with them.

Jaysa

Jaysa, my eight-year old granddaughter just finished her first basketball season and the team was undefeated. Jaysa wasn't sure she would like playing basketball but once she got the skills down, she learned it was a lot of fun. She is a really good defender and I got to attend the one game where she made her first basket! Now she is getting ready for the next sport which is soccer. It is hard for me to keep up with everyone!
