IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Gee, it's August already and the summer is almost gone! I can't complain though as we have had wonderful weather. In fact, it sort of reminds me of what it used to be like around here when I was growing up with warmer temperatures.

Last weekend was another busy time around here. Dave was away to a swap meet - steam exhibit at Brooks on Saturday. He met up with another steamer friend, Stephanie Hylton who met him there and they browsed around looking at steam stuff. Dave came home with a couple of good finds, some copper and brass doodads for the boat. I spent the day cleaning house as I had been gone the whole week before.

Sunday both Dave and I were committed to the Rinehart Clinic Centennial Celebration. Along with the City of Wheeler, the Rinehart Clinic is also celebrating 100 years. The Clinic had a birthday party over at Nehalem and Dave was emcee for their program while I helped cut cake. I feel like a real expert after cutting cake for the past two weekends! They had a logging exhibition with an axe throwing, log rolling and tree cutting contests. I also got a t-shirt out of the deal!

My sister Judy had knee surgery on Tuesday. She was having her fourth knee replacement on her leg and due to a recurring infection, she has been in a rehab facility for the last three months trying to cure it. If the infection was still present when the doctor put in her new knee, he was going to have to amputate her leg. That is how serious the infection was. Anyway the doctor didn't have to amputate and inserted a new knee instead. Hopefully she will be able to get on with a normal life.

Wednesday afternoon we headed into Portland to see the women's professional soccer team - the Portland Thorns - play. The reason we were going to the game was because our eleven-year old granddaughter Paige was invited to be one of the escorts of the players going onto the field before the game started. She was so excited and was thrilled when she was able to escort her favorite player, Alex Morgan to the field. Paige was speechless and couldn't remember a thing she was going to say to her. Alex Morgan is a very talented forward and was the star of the USA Olympic team before she went professional to play for the Portland Thorns. We are so proud of our Paige that we almost busted our buttons! It was an exciting game and the Thorns won, 3-1. We had parked our car at the Washington County Fair Complex in Hillsboro and rode MAX the rest of the way into town. The parking at the stadium is awful and for $2.00 a person round trip, you can't beat the train. We got to our car around 10:30 that evening and got back home around midnight.

On Thursday, Dave attempted to put the steamboat into the water after he spent most of the week finding a steam leak. But another problem occurred - the engine stopped - and the boat had to be taken back out of the water. Dave is hoping to find the problem before we go to the steam meet next weekend at Port Orchard. He was really disappointed because he has no idea what the problem is. Let's keep our fingers crossed that he finds the problem and it is fixable.
