IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It has been a hectic week around here, but that is to be expected with the holidays approaching. I hope everyone is able to take a deep breath and enjoy the season. I got the Christmas letter written and mailed, made some cookies to give away as gifts, sent off a package to our German exchange daughter and even got a few presents bought and wrapped so things are coming together. I am sorry this is so short this week and that there are no pictures. Maybe I can make up for it next week.

Last Saturday, I rode into town with Dave as he had to broadcast a Blazer game and I wanted to get started on some gift buying. I dropped him off at the Rose Garden and then started marking off my list of things I wanted to get done. I went over to Lara's first thing as they had plans that evening to attend a Christmas party and I didn't want to miss them. Besides, I hadn't seen Jordyn since she had her new "hot pink" cast and I had to autograph it for her. She is getting along pretty good with that cast on and next week she will have it taken off. It is amazing how fast they heal. After that, I went and had a much needed pedicure before I hit the mall. I like to shop during the holidays on Saturday night when everyone else is busy with parties. It isn't so crowded and I hate crowds. I didn't have any problems finding a parking place. I walked all over the mall trying to get some ideas for gifts and managed to buy just a couple of things. It was hard to focus because I found some great things that I wanted for myself. I found a cute top that I can wear to a retirement party this weekend and body splash that I was out of. While I was at the mall, I had my diamond earrings checked. In order to keep the replacement warranty current, I have to have them inspected every six months. It is a big pain because I am usually too busy when I come to town or I forget to bring the papers with me.

After I was done at the mall, (I must have walked miles) I stopped for gas and then headed over to the Rose Garden to pick up Dave after the game. Since he was able to leave his equipment in place until the next game, we got out of there at a reasonable hour so we could head back to the coast. We had an uneventful drive home but not without a scary incident on a bridge that we have to cross near our home. There was another car approaching this narrow bridge at the same time we were and they were taking their half out of the middle. Dave squeezed up next to the bridge rail and we just barely missed each other!

The weather has been wet for most of the week but the sun finally decided to make an appearance on Wednesday. I have been keeping my birdfeeders out but most of the birds have left for the winter. We are getting our usual winter ground feeders: Junko, Robins, Towhee, Thrush, Downy Woodpeckers and my favorite winter birds - the little Chickadee. Oh, and the resident squirrel comes out once in awhile.

I will be residing in West Linn for the next couple of weeks. Lara goes in for her reconstruction surgery today. She had to be check into the hospital at 5:30 a.m. and her surgery will be ten hours long. She will be in the hospital for a week and I will be caring for the grandchildren during that time and after she gets home until she is able to take over. I am planning on being there until the first of the year or as long as she needs me. The granddaughters will be in school next week and their daddy will take them to school and I will pick them up and take them to their various activities (ballet, violin, math club, etc). Lara had to make up the schedule so I will know where I should be and when. I am hoping to be able to entertain them with some Christmas activities too.

So hurry and get the rest of your shopping done and your gifts wrapped and then sit back and enjoy!
