IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Last weekend was a busy time for us. We drove into Portland on Friday as Dave had to set up for a preseason Blazer game. I opted to go along and dropped him off at the Rose Garden so I could use the car while in town. The downside to that is I have to go pick him up after the game which is around 9:30. Then he had to tear down his equipment because there was going to be a hockey game the next evening at the Rose Garden. So it was more like 11:30 before we got back to West Linn and it was pouring down rain.

Saturday in spite of the pouring rain, we dressed in our rain gear and headed for our granddaughter's soccer game. It wasn't a very good game as the girls ended up having to play a boys team and the boys killed them. In fact, the coach put every one of the girls on the field and the boys still managed to score. Although my granddaughter Jaysa did a great job and boy can she kick the ball! I am just sorry they lost the game.

Also, Saturday was Lara's birthday so we had all the family together (except Ashtin who was attending another party at the same time) for a big celebration. It is always so hard to get everyone together with their busy lives. I had ordered pizza and made a salad and of course a big chocolate birthday cake with ice cream for dessert. Lara opened gifts and had a great time. She's doing well. She had her final chemotherapy treatment last week and is now just building up her strength for her next surgery in December.

We spent the night and Sunday in town and got up early for breakfast before heading back to the beach. Dave had to turn around and come back into Portland on Monday for another preseason game, but I wanted to get home as I had things to do. Dave spent the night Monday night because the next day he had a doctor's appointment for a hearing test for the Veteran's Administration to see if he qualifies for benefits for his hearing loss. He has been on their "waiting list" for over a year, so I hope things work out for him. They did say that it could be several more months before he knows.

We did manage to get the steamboat back into the boat barn. It had been sitting out in the rain all week since we had cleaned it. I washed all the grim and soot off the cushions and got them put away for the year. Dave took a couple of brass pieces off the boat, the Windermere Kettle and an auxiliary fuel tank, so when he is back in Portland in a couple of weeks, he will drop them off to get polished. It's been years since either of them has been touched and they're both in pretty sad shape.

The rest of the week it has been pouring down rain. The rain has been coming down so hard that it sounds like someone was hosing down the roof and we can hardly hear ourselves because of the noise. After nearly three months of nice weather, it's been a real shock to have the rain return all at once. The weather did manage to break for an hour on Wednesday and so I was able to get in a work party for the city parks. Two of us managed to show up and we planted some plants that we had purchased and we cleaned out the flower bed for the winter. The rain had really done the flowers in. I think the rest of the winter it is going to be hit and miss as far as working in the parks.

I checked the calendar which is posted on the refrigerator and it looks like we have nothing planned for the weekend. Boy, that seems strange as there is always something going on around here!
