IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!

”escalonia”

There have been recent weeks where I haven't been busy but this week made up for it!

Monday after my water aerobics class, we hitched up the trailer and - along with my friend Karen - took off for the valley to pick up 30 Escolonia bushes to replace the cedar hedge we removed last spring. Karen has a grower's license and she can pick up plants at wholesale. So I only had to pay $11.75 a bush instead of $20.00. I am real pleased with our purchase as the bushes are a good size 3' tall and 2' wide so they should fill in nicely. The trip took most of the morning and after we stopped for lunch at the Elderberry Inn, we got home in the early afternoon. It was pouring down rain so we decided to leave the bushes in the trailer. Now if we can find a dry day so that Dave can level off the area where we are going to place them, I will get busy and put them in the ground. Hopefully it will be before it gets too cold.

”Jan,

”Les,

My sister, Jeanne from Phoenix called me late Sunday evening and she decided to come up to see us after all. She had planned to come up but was so overwhelmed with unpacking from her move and trip, plus she had a cold and didn't want to expose Lara to that. Anyway she was feeling better and so she changed her mind and was going to be coming up on Tuesday morning after all. I was to pick her up at the airport. She was flying standby and was sure she could get on the early morning flight out of Phoenix. She called me just before she was to take off and told me that the flight was delayed because of faulty brakes. They had to stay seated on the plane out on the runway for a couple of hours before they were ready to go again. Thank goodness they discovered this before they took off! Anyway, she arrived two hours later than planned. It worked out because it takes me two hours to drive to the airport so when I got there, I just waited in the cell phone parking area until she called me. We stopped by our sister Judy's place in Milwaukie and went out for lunch before we headed over to Lara's to spend some time with her. That evening, we were invited down to Leslie's in Silverton for dinner so we were on the go most of the day.

”Lara,

On Wednesday we went with Lara to her final Chemo treatment. Of course we were all jubilant and livened up the treatment center. Those people needed a little cheering up anyway. She made it through all of that and now is scheduled for December 14th for her reconstruction surgery. She will be in the hospital for a week and so I will be helping her with the girls. After her treatment, we visited with Lara for awhile and after dinner I headed back to the coast. I had a meeting in the morning plus a haircut appointment the next day. Dave had a preseason Blazer game that night and had spent most of his day at the Rose Garden "putting out fires" before the first broadcast of the season. He got home around midnight, exhausted.

”Dave”

Thursday after my meeting and haircut appointment, we decided to tackle the steamboat. We had pulled it out of the water about a week ago and because it has been raining and we have been gone, it needed washing badly. It had been tied at Kahrs' boat dock for a couple of months and there was an oil ring around the hull and barnacles growing all over the keel so Dave borrowed a pressure washer to get most of it off. Unfortunately, a lot of the hull paint came off too so it looks like we will have a boat painting project this winter!

Thursday night we went into Astoria to the Liberty Theater for a reader's theater performance. Dave used to do reader's theater and we wanted to see how they did it. The performance was a comedy and was very well done.

Today we head back into town as Dave has another preseason Blazer broadcast and then on Saturday we are going to celebrate Lara's birthday. We will also get in a soccer game that one of the granddaughter's will be in. We have two soccer stars in the family now. My ten-year old who has been playing for some time now and does a really great job and my seven-year old who just started playing this year and is doing pretty good too. It must be in the genes or something.
