IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I spent the first part of this week doing another project before I headed into West Linn on Tuesday evening. One of the projects that I have been postponing was getting a bed dug for Leanna's yard. I had bought some shrubs to place in her front yard to make a hedge and the plants have been sitting in their pots all summer long getting root bound. So with the help of Dave on the tractor digging up the grass and Leanna helping with removal of the clumps of grass after I managed to loosen them, we got the shrubs planted so I can take that off my summer list.

I drove into West Linn on Tuesday evening after supper to help out Lara once again. With three kids to take care of, it is a little more than she can handle with her bad back. She also was scheduled for day surgery to have a port inserted under her skin for her Chemo treatments which should start next week. She had to be at the hospital by 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday so we got up bright and early. It didn't take too long for the surgery. In fact, I think we waited in the waiting room longer than the operation! I got to be with her until they scooted her off for the procedure. She is still in a lot of pain with her back muscles and is having some physical therapy to help with the bad back. She is a least able to get out of bed now and walk around a little. I stayed in West Linn for a couple of days, helping out with whatever she needed. On Thursday I had a doctor's appointment and so I left for home after that.

It happened that Dave had a doctor's appointment in Hillsboro on Thursday also. He has been having trouble with swelling in his ankle and wanted to check to make sure it wasn't caused by any of the medications that he has been taking. He went to see the cardiologist because that's the doctor who has prescribed most of his medication. His regular cardio doc is on vacation, so he got to see the next guy in line - someone who has never seen him before. Doctor number two isn't real sure what the problem is (after all, he's a cardiologist, not an ankle doctor), but he does want to rule out the possibility of blood clots, so he's prescribing an ultrasound to check that out. Dave will get that done next Tuesday. After our various appointments and since we drove separate cars - (him coming from the coast and me coming from West Linn) - we did some grocery shopping and followed each other back home. We stopped at the Elderberry Inn for a bite to eat and shared a Marionberry cobbler for dessert. It was to die for because it was sooo good.

The tree people finally came back this week to remove the four stumps that they had overlooked last month. So now that they are gone, it is on to the next phase of this project. Our daughter Leslie and her family are coming down this weekend and we hope we can talk them into helping us move some dirt around as we want to get started with the terracing of the hillside. They haven't been down for quite some time so we are excited to have them here. Dave started getting the area ready by moving a big, ugly pile of lumber that had been accumulating alongside the driveway. In with all that lumber was a heavy old piece of railroad track that's been kicking around the place since Dave's dad was here. Dave was trying to get a chain around it so he could move it with the tractor when it slipped and rolled onto his foot. Good thing he had most of the rest of the project done because he's been hobbling around every since!

I don't know what my schedule will be for next week as I am on call whenever Lara needs some help. I figure I am racking up some credit so when I am old and helpless, she will help me out. I know she will, because that's the kind of daughters I have. Please keep her in your hearts and prayers as she continues on this rough road ahead.
