IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

collage” WIDTH=

We took the granddaughters with us back to Wheeler for the weekend to give Lara some time to recuperate. We made it about half way home and stopped to feed some hungry kids at a place where we like to have lunch. When we got home, there was a Summerfest going on in Wheeler for that weekend and we had invited two other steam boaters to town to help give rides to everyone during the activities. Dave's sister Leanna helped get steamers and their passengers in and out all weekend. The girls had a great time riding in the steam boats. They also got to go in the bouncy house and have their faces painted. This was the first time that they have stayed with us without their parents and everything went better than I expected. On Sunday afternoon we stopped at the beach for a quick play in the sun and surf and then we headed back to West Linn. The girls had to get ready to spend the week with their Aunt Leslie, Uncle Jay, Ashtin and Paige. Jadyn and Jaysa were attending a camp in Silverton and Ashtin and Paige were going to take care of Jordyn during the day while the others were at camp. Leslie brought Jordyn back on Wednesday night so we have had her all the rest of the week.

First, an update on our daughter Lara. She had her Mastectomy a week ago on Thursday and is doing great! We came in last week to be with her during her surgery and she came home on Saturday. I have been in town all this week with Lara to help her out. It has been like a vacation for me. She signed up for a "food train" where her friends signed up to bring meals by each night - so I don't even have to cook! Most of the meals have been pretty good too. We had one meal that was rather strange, Ox tail soup which was a first for us. It was rather greasy. But all in all, most of the meals have been really good. I took her to the doctor on Monday and she had one of her drainage tubes removed. She had the other one removed on Thursday and was glad to finally be free of that so now she can take a shower. We are still waiting for the complete pathology report from her doctor and will keep you informed as soon as we get the news.

Dave has been on his own in Wheeler all week while I have been away and I think he is doing fine. He even fed the birds and squirrels and made sure that my plants got enough water. I really appreciate all he is doing. It was a worry since my friend Donna wasn't available to help me this past week.

Speaking of Donna, she had called me before I left to inquire whether I had received the gift certificate that she had sent for my birthday from this nursery that I had raved about. Of course, it hadn't come so she called them up to see what the hold-up was. It apparently had slipped through the cracks but the charge on her credit card didn't. They promised to send me my gift certificate with an extra $20.00 added. Well, a week later it still hadn't arrived and so I took matters in my own hands and gave them a call. Sure enough, the same thing had happened again but this time I talked to the right people and the gift certificate arrived in my mailbox the next day!! They even credited Donna's card so it was actually a "free" gift certificate. Next spring we are planning on taking a trip to Scappoose to use the gift certificate when all the annuals will be available.

I will be leaving Lara's to go back to the coast today and am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed again and getting back into my usual routine.
