IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

We started last weekend by watching the workers cut down our cedar hedge in front of our house. What a job! The cedars were half dead and grown together and it took four guys well over four hours to cut, shred and haul away the remains. I am sure glad we didn't try to tackle that job by ourselves. The workers even found the remains of a dead raccoon under the hedge, yuk!! Whenever Dave would try to discourage those critters with his BB gun they would run for the hedge - he's thinking he might actually have hit one of them! Anyway, on Sunday the crew boss came back and ground the stumps down with this major league stump grinder that ran by remote control. That was fun to watch too. Now that the hedge has disappeared, we now have an open view of the river and the bay plus we now get to see the traffic on Highway 101 too. We thought that we would hear more traffic noise but really haven't noticed too much difference. We do feel a little more exposed to the world with the hedge gone but hopefully we can replant soon and get some privacy back.

We have been following along by getting pictures and e-mails from Leslie and Ashtin who have been back in Washington, D.C. and New York these last two weeks. Their itinerary has been packed from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day. What a memorable experience for our granddaughter and daughter. I am so glad they are getting to see all of our National treasures. On Monday, Ashtin got to participate in laying the wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Leslie sent us a video of the ceremony which brought tears to my eyes. They are in New York today where they will wind up their trip and come home Saturday night.

Dave and I joined about 25 of the North Coast Recreation District's Roadies and boarded a bus on Wednesday to watch a Mariners baseball game. It was a 12:30 game so we had to leave here at 7:30 in the morning to make it to Seattle in time for the game. Our trip included the bus ride, tickets to the game and lunch. On the way home we stopped and had dinner so we didn't get back until 10:30 that night. It was a very long day but fun. But, I decided I like watching the games on television better as you can get up close and personal with the team. Watching from the ballpark you are so far away from the action but on the plus side you get the ambience of the crowd. By the way, the Mariners lost the game 2-1, oh well.

I have to drive Dave to Tillamook for an MRI today. He went to his neurologist earlier this week and the doctor wants to have him take the test to see whether he had another stroke or not. She knows something happened, but isn't 100% sure it was a stroke. His balance is still a little shaky so it could be a number of other things. He has to take a couple of Valiums before his MRI as they want him to lay still and he has this chronic cough. It is hard for him to lie still when he has to cough and so taking the Valium should relax him. He won't be able to drive himself home safety afterwards so that is where I come in.

We are expecting my daughter, Lara and family down Saturday for the 4th of July week. They will be staying all week as the Fourth falls in the middle of the week this year. They are taking a week's vacation before her surgery on the 13th. I will be taking care of the girls while she is in the hospital after her surgery for five days. We will see how she feels to see if I am needed longer than that. It is going to be a long haul so keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
