IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jan” WIDTH=

Gardening, that's what has been going on around here. We finally had some nice weather which gave me a chance to start on this "jungle" of weeds and overgrown brush that has somehow taken over the property. The problem is that it is taking me a little bit longer to get it done as I have great expectations when I start but run out of energy before I accomplish my goal for the day. Dave has been helping me by unloading the wheel barrel after I have it filled. Oh well, it will be there waiting for me tomorrow, believe me!

Then there is the vegetable garden. Everything is coming up that I planted and thanks to the chipmunks they have decided to pull up my green beans so I have had to replant them. I even covered the ground with milk jugs hoping that at least the beans could get a start and sprout before they got yanked out by the roots. No such luck. One of my cucumbers that I planted started wilting and I thought it needed water but it turns out a beetle helped itself to that so I had to remove it before it spread to the other cucumber that I had planted beside it. Sometimes gardening can be very discouraging.

Park Committee” WIDTH=

We have our work party at Waterfront Park as usual every Wednesday morning. A bunch of us from the Park Committee get together and try to keep the weeding and pruning of the local parks under control during the summer months. We usually work for a couple of hours and are back home by noon. Everyone who comes by while we are working compliments us on how great the park looks and I will have to admit that our efforts do show. One of the benefits of our volunteering is that if a plant needs to be divided, we get to bring some of it home to plant in our own yards. This week I came home with some Bunny Grass and Autumn Joy for my yard.

I took a break on Tuesday (besides, it was raining) and drove down to Neskowin for a Master Gardener's board meeting and potluck at one of the member's homes. She has a beautiful garden and her home overlooks the Pacific Ocean. After the meeting, I had a doctor's appointment in Tillamook and a manicure after that to get some of the dirt from under my nails so I didn't get back home until after 5:00. I was starting to fix dinner when Dave reminded me that we were invited to a Wheeler Business Association social of beer and hot dogs, so off we went to that.

Deer” WIDTH=

We had our local deer show up this week. Usually the deer come very early in the morning before we are awake, do their dirty work by nibbling on the shrubs and then scamper off. I can tell the deer have come around because they don't cover their hoof prints very well. But while we were eating our lunch the other day, the deer showed up to help itself to the bird feeder. We said to say "Seed" while we took a picture before we chased it away.

Kay & Terri” WIDTH=

I have been back on my diet for about 4 weeks now and it is beginning to pay off. I have lost 9 pounds and am back to fitting into a size smaller jeans. It was getting to the point where I could not zip up my bigger jeans anymore and then I decided that this was too much. I am now watching my portions and drinking lots of water during the day and also keeping a journal of what I consume. I want to lose about 50 pounds altogether. Hey, only 41 pounds more to go!!

We are going to be in Portland for the weekend as Dave has a Cardiologist appointment today and will be announcing the Rose Cup Races Saturday and Sunday. I usually stay home but I decided I needed to take a break. While we were in town, we called some cousins and we had dinner with them. We love to see Kay and her daughter Terri when we come to town and always enjoy their company. Besides, the coffee's ALWAYS on and the food isn't bad either!
