IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

We had Ashtin and Paige most of the week while they were on Spring break and it was time to take them back home last Sunday. Since Dave had three Blazer games in four days and I didn't want to spend all that time in town, we decided to drive into town separately so I could come back home on Monday. I took the two granddaughters into Hillsboro with me. Paige was scheduled to play a soccer game and we met their parents there. It was fun having the girls down for the week and in spite of all the rain, we hope they had a good time.

After dropping the granddaughters off, I headed into West Linn to spend the night. I arrived to an empty house as everyone was out celebrating Jadyn's ninth birthday. She was driven by a Hummer Limo to a bowling party with all her little friends. They all felt so special riding in the "big" car and the minute they arrived back home they excitedly wanted me to see the limo. I am sure that Jadyn won't forget that birthday. Jadyn's birthday was actually on Tuesday so I missed all the celebration because I had left for home on Monday after our appointment with the tax man. Dave was still in town for a Blazer game and was invited to Red Robin for Jadyn's actual birthday on Tuesday. Jadyn always enjoys going there on her birthday because the staff sings and gives her a "free" sundae. I was planning on taking her there for her birthday this weekend when we are back in town to celebrate Easter. I always take her shopping for a new outfit and then lunch. Maybe I will take her to a movie instead of lunch.

Monday, after visiting with the accountant to go over our taxes, I headed back to the coast. I was relieved because we squeaked by with not having to pay any extra on our taxes this year. In fact, we are getting some money back but we're applying it to our quarterly taxes, so - depending on next year's income - Uncle Sam will get it anyway.

We had a sad event in our neighborhood when we received a phone call in the middle of the night last Saturday from Dave's sister, Leanna whose dog passed away. Blaze was fourteen years old and had been in bad health. She kept having seizures so Leanna knew that she wouldn't last long. At least she was with her when she died. Leanna was very close to her little dog and will miss her as much as I still miss my dog, Niki who has been gone for almost 10 years. The trouble with having a pet is that they don't live as long as you and it is so heartbreaking when they die.

I thought that I had retired! I can't believe my calendar with all the events written down. I am involved with two different plant sales this spring, one for the garden club and the other for the Master Gardeners. Besides that, I am committed to work parties every Wednesday maintaining the parks in Wheeler. We are also scheduling our annual Wheeler clean-up day in May. That is where we rent dumpsters and have the citizens of Wheeler bring all their yard debris, old furniture, recycle stuff, etc. and the city hauls it away for them. This will be our fourth year doing this.

Will it ever stop raining? I am so sick of this weather. I decided that I needed to get some snow peas planted and bought some fuchsias and potted them in pots. But they are still in the greenhouse because it is too cold outside. When the sun does come out, I just want to enjoy the warmth and remember the occasion. Twice this weekend, Dave had snow on his drive between here and the valley - once on Sunday when he went in and again on Wednesday when he came home. This is April - right?

We will celebrate Easter and birthdays with our families in Silverton. Jadyn had her birthday on Tuesday and Paige has her 10th birthday the Monday after Easter. We have a lot to celebrate and it should be a great day!
