IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Gosh this has been one busy week! We started off by packing our bags on Friday and heading into West Linn for the weekend. Dave had a Blazer broadcast on Friday night so after we got into town, he dropped me off at Lara's and headed off to the game. The weekend was the beginning of many parties for our youngest granddaughter who turned four on February 1st. Jordyn had a party on Saturday at Pump It Up where kids jump up and down on trampolines and things like that. So while Dave was working and the rest of the gang was at the party, I opted to run a few errands and also to visit with my older sister, Judy while I had the chance and was in her neighborhood.

Ashtin's Guests

My oldest granddaughter Ashtin is trying to raise enough money so her seventh grade class can go to Washington D.C., New York City and the Amish country in June. A lot of the kids in her class are still scrambling to raise enough money to make the trip, so we attended a fund-raiser/auction dinner on Saturday night. Ashtin had a special table just for her family and she very graciously served us our dinner. She was wearing a dress and she looked so grown-up. There were quite a few things that they were auctioning off and it was hard to choose one item I liked the best. I ended up bidding on - and winning - a romantic night for two at the Oregon Garden Resort which is just a few miles away from Leslie and Jason's place in Silverton. It also included breakfast and two tickets into the gardens. I have been there before for lunch and a tour and really enjoyed it. We will probably save this special date for our anniversary in September. This part of the auction was timed, where you could write your bid on the list and at the end of the time, the last bid before the end won the auction. Dave was hanging around watching the bidding to make sure I won and as they counted down the time - four, three, two, one - he elbowed everyone away and wrote down the winning bid just as they said "zero". I think he's been hanging around on eBay too much - that's how he wins stuff there too! Anyway, Dave bid on a whole bunch of different things but all he won was an office package with all sorts of things: writing paper, pens, chocolate and a letter holder to name a few. It was a fun event and a lot of people came. I hope they raised a lot of money for their trip. My daughter Leslie also hopes to be going with Ashtin on this trip. Now we just need to do a fundraiser for her too! It should be really fun for them.

Jordyn

Jordyn with frogs

Sunday, it was another party for Jordyn - this time it was a family event. We ate lunch and then had birthday cake before she opened her presents. She got lots of clothes and a pair of frogs in an aquarium. Yes, she wanted a frog for her birthday. I suggested the name Freddy Croaker for one of them, but she settled on something else. It was nice to have some casual time with the family and I know Jordyn had a good time. After her party, we headed for home.

Tuesday, I attended our Master Gardeners class as a mentor. The subject for this class was soils. As a mentor, I'm there to assist the first year students, but I also love having the opportunity to repeat the class. There is so much to absorb that it amazes me how much more I learn the second time around. I must be a slow learner.

I didn't stay all day at the Master Gardeners class. I had been fasting all day in preparation for my colonoscopy which was scheduled for Wednesday morning and I was anxious to get home to continue that process. This was the first time I have had a colonoscopy so I didn't know what to expect. Well, let me rephrase that. I had talked with enough people who were veterans of this procedure that I knew what was going to happen, it's just that I hadn't experienced it before so I had no idea how much it was going to affect me. I downed the first two pills around 3:00 p.m. and mixed up the Mirolax around 5:00 p.m. and steadily drank that stuff until it was gone. Oh - My - God! I wore out the carpet running to the bathroom! "Montezuma's Revenge" has nothing over this stuff! I obviously didn't get much sleep that night but by morning things had settled down and I made it to my appointment for the procedure without an incident. After they put me to sleep, I don't remember anything until I woke up in the recovery room. The doctor told me that he removed one polyp which they will do a biopsy on. I'll get the result of that next week. I am sure glad that whole episode is over. When I got back home I felt like cleaning my bathroom!

It is hard to believe that it is February all ready. January was so stormy and now February is starting out real spring-like. I even had a chance to get out and do a little yard cleaning this week. There were a lot of small branches and twigs from the wind storms we have had plus a lot of weeds to pull so I gave them a shot of Round-Up. The daffodils are starting to come forth and I noticed a lot of buds on branches too. I even see the little Finches are back so I put out their special food. They are my favorite bird.

Not much for me going on this weekend - just the Super Bowl on Sunday, and the only reason I watch that is to see all the funny commercials. Dave has another trip into town today and will be back on Saturday night or Sunday morning as he has a "double-header" to do on Saturday. There is a Portland State basketball telecast in the afternoon and a Blazer radio broadcast that night, so he's going to be a pretty busy guy.
