IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jaysa, Jordyn, Jadyn” WIDTH=

We were thrilled to have our three youngest granddaughters and their Mom and Dad come for a visit last week. They arrived on Monday and stayed all week. They had a great time going camping at Cape Lookout, as well as fishing and crabbing and always playing on the beach. The weather was perfect too!

One of the things the granddaughters and I did was pick wild blackberries and then everyone helped grandma make a cobbler for after dinner. Boy was that good and the girls had so much fun helping. We also had the girls get "fairy hair" attached to their own hair. The hair dresser weaved these tinsel strands into their hair which gave it a glittery effect. They wanted to be all sparkly when they headed back to school. If you look closely, you can see it in Jadyn's hair - she's on the right in the photo. While the two oldest were having that done, little Jordyn went shopping with her granddad over at the Emporium. They had a ball. She couldn't believe everything they had on the shelves and Dave said that everywhere she looked she would "Ooh" and "Ahh" at all the wonderful stuff! She finally settled for a stuffed animal. She also came back with a beauty kit and was practicing with the plastic "blow dryer" and curlers on everyone's hair all evening.

Jan Deck

I did manage to get some more painting done this week while the kids were out playing around. I got some gray paint to paint the pitch on the greenhouse as it was looking pretty weather beaten. It was easy to do, but it had been so long since it had been done that it really soaked up the paint! I also continued on with the brown on the deck railing as the kid I had hired to do the high part hurt his arm and wasn't able to continue. So up the ladder I went (hanging on for dear life) and with Dave's help, we got most of it done by Thursday. We have a little touch-up to do and some paint to scrape off the glass between the deck rails and then I think we will be finished. It took a week on that darn ladder and I'm pooped! Thank the Lord we managed to get it done without falling and breaking anything! We also inspired Dave's sister Leanna to stain her deck and she has been working all week doing that. While they were here, Lara and Greg took Ray's pressure washer over to her house and cleaned the deck. Then Leanna bought some paint and stain and had a friend help her do the deck and the rails. It really looks nice.

I mentioned that the kids went crabbing one day this week and they managed to catch eight. So we had a crab salad one night for dinner. We have a small boat that we are keeping for our nephew. We use it to use for crabbing and it makes it nice if anyone wants to use it. I spent one morning cracking the remaining crabs and we split them up between us. We have enjoyed eating crab melts and crab salads all week.

Dave and I had to get up at "oh dark thirty" on Saturday as Dave had to do the audio on the telecast of the Portland State football game in Portland. It was awfully early to leave, but we had to do it so he could be in Portland by the "crew call" time of 8:00 a.m. There isn't much parking available at that stadium, so I dropped him off and spent the rest of my time shopping and running errands. I visited with my sister, Judy whom I hadn't seen for months and we went out for lunch. I picked Dave up after the game and after grabbing a bite to eat, we headed back to the coast. It was a long day and I was ready for bed but we ended up being invited down to the Kahrs' for a bonfire on their wharf. It was Dave's birthday and they wanted to celebrate. We finally left their dock around 11:00 and I was REALLY tired by then.

I just finished reading the book "The Help" and wanted to see the movie. A friend of mine and I decided we would leave our husbands at home and we took off Tuesday evening for the movie. It was really good and it followed the book pretty much. If you haven't read the book I would highly recommend it, although you might find it a little racist. But it takes place in the 1960's in Mississippi and that was what it was like then.

I was really enjoying my geraniums and they were so pretty until the deer ate them the other morning. The deer seem to know when the flowers are at their peak too. I was so angry. I asked Dave when deer season begins, because I am so tempted to get a gun and a license!

This weekend we will be going out to dinner and to a play at the Coaster Theater in Cannon Beach to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. I am really looking forward to a night out. I'm not sure where we'll have dinner - all I know is that I won't be cooking it!
