IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Happy Labor Day Weekend everybody! It means that summer (which was late) is now over and fall is in the air. The kids will be heading back to school next week. But according to the weatherman, we are still in for some nice weather so I may be able to still get all my outside projects completed before the rains come. I'm sure hoping so. September is usually our best season of the year, and we could really use a little extra "Indian Summer" this year!

We have been eating great (and healthy) this past few weeks. We have been eating green beans, cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden and there is nothing like being able to step outdoors and pick fresh vegetables. I love that part of the summer. Also, my purple Oriental Lilies are beautiful this year. I didn't know what color I would end up with as it was a "grab bag" of bulbs that I bought from the garden club. There is a lot of anticipation with them as they take their time blooming and the bud just "tantalizes" you before it blooms! I am also thankful that the deer haven't decided to eat them. They have helped themselves to half my Geraniums and Autumn Joys.

We spent most of last weekend driving - 10 hours total over two days. Saturday morning, we drove to Keizer for a memorial service for our friend Stan's father and then drove back home again that afternoon because Dave was in the final performance of his play Saturday night. Then on Sunday we turned around and drove right past Keizer again to Silverton to celebrate our oldest granddaughter, Ashtin's birthday. She is 12 years old and is growing up way too fast. It was a hot day and the kids had a blast swimming and diving in their swimming pool. It was especially fun to watch our 3-1/2 year old Jordyn do cannonballs and belly flops off the diving board. She isn't afraid of the water at all. Ashtin got lots of money and gift certificates for presents (that's what she wanted) and a Kindle from her parents because reading is her favorite subject and now she will be able to load all kinds of books into her Kindle to read.

On Monday, Lara and Greg and their three girls arrived for a week visit. They ended up going camping for two days at Cape Lookout where they really had a lot of fun sleeping in their 6-man tent and in their sleeping bags. They went on hikes and enjoyed s'mores over a campfire. What a great way to end their summer break. While they were out camping, Dave and I got busy and pressure washed the deck and worked on the outside deck rails. Yes, the deck rails that we had hired someone to do, but that didn't work out so we are ending up doing the job ourselves. It is kind of a slow process because it's all ladder work. First we have to sand down the rails, then apply a primer before we finish the job with the stain. It will get done sooner or later.

The kids returned from their camping trip yesterday and are staying here for the rest of the Labor Day weekend. They plan on taking the small boat out to go crabbing and going to the beach each day. Dave has a football telecast to work in Portland on Saturday afternoon, so we will leave at the crack of dawn for that. I plan on going with him as there is no parking available at the stadium and I need to do a little shopping and visiting with my sister while we are in town. We will come back after the game that evening. The traffic to the beach will be bumper to bumper because they are expecting 90 degree weather in Portland and everyone heads for the beach where it will be cooler.

It's also Dave's birthday tomorrow so I want to wish him a very happy birthday although he will be spending the day working at the game.
