IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

We had our semi-annual town hall meeting on Saturday night with a spaghetti feed. We introduced our new mayor (Stevie Burden) who took over the term for our previous mayor who had resigned because of poor health. Stevie had been mayor in the past so she hit the ground running. She talked about Wheeler's vision and the results of the survey that had been sent out for residents to express what they considered priorities for the city. It was an informative meeting and it was too bad that we had a poor turnout. Gee, even with a free meal, nobody seems to want to come to the meetings and you can be sure that these same people are the first ones to complain how the city is run.

On Tuesday morning our Garden Club went for a field trip to Silverton to the Oregon Gardens. We had about 34 members and managed to fill the bus to its capacity. The whole trip only cost each member $15 and that included admission to the gardens. There was one annoying person on the bus who was very vocal and she had a shrieking laugh and of course I had to sit near her. She also brought a lot of "snacks" and spent most of the time when she wasn't talking, pushing her food on everyone. It took about 3 hours to finally get there and we spent a couple of hours touring the place. I met my daughter, Leslie and since she lives and works in Silverton, we had lunch together. After leaving the gardens, we headed for Woodburn to Al's Nursery where we enjoyed buying plants and hauling them all home on the bus. It was a long day and we got back home around 5:45 p.m.

Dave had an appointment with his cardiologist on Wednesday so we drove into Hillsboro for that. He had a great report on his cholesterol but he has been having a few side effects since the doctor increased his dosage on his Lipitor and he started taking blood pressure medication. So he has to find out which medication is causing the problem. For the next two weeks he will stop taking his Lipitor to see if that is it and if it continues, then he has to stop taking his blood pressure medication to see if we can pinpoint which medication is causing the discomfort. Meanwhile, the doctor recommended Prilosec in case what he is feeling is just heartburn. Sometimes the side effects are worse that the true illness!

I was also scheduled for a teeth cleaning at the dentist on Wednesday and when I hadn't heard a confirmation from them, I called. Somehow my appointment was not on their records so I didn't get my teeth cleaned. No explanation, but I am sure glad I called ahead of time because I would have been upset to arrive at the dentist and not have an appointment. Isn't it funny when you don't keep your appointment the dentist will "charge" you for canceling but it doesn't work the same what when the tables are turned and they forget to schedule you. I even have the appointment card to prove it! At least I am not losing my memory.

Our 6-year old Jaysa graduated from kindergarten on Thursday morning. Don't ask me why they scheduled the ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on a week day. I guess they figure that the parents can take off work or something. We wished we could have been there but we just didn't want to make another trip into town this week. Lara did send us a photo though. That's Jaysa in the blue shirt on the right.

We are going to see another play at the Coaster Theater in Cannon Beach tonight. Our kids got us tickets for three plays this season - this will be the second. This one is called the "Dixie Swim Club". It is a comedy about five old friends who meet at four different reunions in the same beach house over 33 years. There are laughs, camaraderie, cocktails and friendships that last forever. We haven't been disappointed in any of the plays that we have seen at the Coaster Theater so far.

Lara, Greg and the granddaughters are coming down for the Memorial Day weekend. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will behave. We had one nice day last weekend and I managed to get my vegetable garden planted but most of this week it has been raining. I covered my seeds with a window glass so they won't rot from all this rain and also to keep the crows from digging up the seeds. It would be so nice to have just a week of sunshine for a change.

I also wanted to mention that Leslie and Jason finally killed the rooster that they had. When they bought their last brood of chicks there was one rooster in the bunch and they decided to keep him. Well, that guy was getting too mean and aggressive and would attack the girls when they would go out to the hen house to gather eggs and to feed the pigs. It got so they were afraid to go do their chores. The rooster was a beauty of a bird but just a little "cocky" when it came to protecting the hens so he met his demise. It didn't take long to replace him though. Just before we posted the journal this week, we got a message saying Ashtin and Paige now have kittens! So, six hens, three pigs, two dogs and now two cats! That'll keep them busy!
