IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Not much to talk about this week, I have been sick with a cold or virus all week and haven't felt like doing anything. I guess it is something going around because a lot of people I know have been sick too.

With that said, I canceled everything.

I was supposed to attend a Disaster Fair in Nehalem last Saturday morning and then drive into Tillamook for an OSU class on building a cloche but I didn't. I was supposed to help with the finishing touches for the plant sale all week but I didn't. I was supposed to attend a work party on Wednesday morning weeding the park, but I didn't.

What's a Disaster Fair? It's when all of the Emergency Services people get together and invite the public to come see and hear people talking about emergency preparedness in our community. With the the emergency volunteers and the public, they had about 200 people at Nehalem City Hall. It was a great turnout and I missed it! Dave was there with his ham radio, so we were at least represented.

After complaining about all the lousy weather we've had this year, I do have to point out that it was sunny and 65 on Wednesday. I was still too sick to enjoy it, but at least there are signs of spring! Of course, by Thursday, it was cloudy and rainy again!.

Finally by Thursday, I managed to join the living and went to my water aerobics class. Since I had been gone for almost a week, I had to reclaim my spot in the pool. This new girl had moved in on my territory and I had to set her straight. It is funny how uncomfortable it feels not to be in your usual spot while exercising! Anyway, it felt good to exercise after a week being gone. After my class, I had to hurry home, grab a quick breakfast and head out for the Park and Rec. committee meeting. We meet once a month and I am secretary so I couldn't miss that.

I was invited last Sunday to go with the granddaughters to the Tulip Festival in Woodburn. But since I was sick, they sent me a picture of the girls enjoying the festival. It is quite a sight to see the fields of tulips all in bloom but it is also very crowded with cars backed up on the freeway to get into the place so you have to take the good with the bad. Ashtin and Paige were happy to pose for pictures, but Lara's girls were a little camera shy.

Today Dave and I will help haul plants and set up for the Garden Club's annual plant sale on Saturday. This year I am also helping out with the Master Gardeners who will have a booth set up to answer any questions people might have about the plants they buy. I will also be on the "slug" lookout for any plants that are in the sale. Somehow, people don't like to get a "bonus" when they buy a plant! This is always a great event and people come from afar to attend this sale.

The little Smoke Tree is alive with Goldfinches! I noticed a couple of "scouts" had showed up last week and now I have counted over 15 Goldfinches coming to the feeders. They are one of my favorite birds and I just love the little tweet they make. Spring has definitely arrived.

It is also Mother's Day on Sunday and I don't really have anything planned. Since next week is full of family birthdays, Leslie's on May 11th, Jaysa's on May 12th and Jason's on May 13th, we will probably all get together next weekend.
