IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

After leaving Portland last Saturday we made one stop at the grocery store to get a few provisions before we headed for home because there was nothing in the house to eat after being away for nine days. I was also anxious to get home because there had been a couple of heavy wind and rain storms while we were away and was curious as to what everything looked like. The storm had left its mark with leaves and limbs scattered all over the yard. I spent two days raking up leaves and other debris that the high winds had spread around the place. One good thing, I won't have to rake very many more leaves because there are nothing left on the trees! Jack Frost had also bitten all of my potted plants (annuals) because the temperatures got below freezing while we were away so they were gone. I am glad that I had put some of them in the greenhouse before I left.

Tree Lights

Someone asked me the other day if I was ready for Christmas. Um -that would be "no". We have received a couple of Christmas cards in the mail already so I guess I had better get with it. I haven't even put away some of my fall decorations yet, let alone think about Christmas. This is always such a busy time of year trying to get everything accomplished for the holidays. After that remark, I quickly took down my fall decorations and began to gradually get the Christmas stuff down from the attic and out on display. Dave is getting the outside lights ready too. He's been busy getting lights up around all the businesses downtown and finally got back to our place to do some electrical repairs so we can have lights too! I think we'll have a lot of that done before the weekend is out. We already started filling in our calendar with social events for the season. We are going to attend a musical, "My Fair Lady" which is being performed at the Coaster Theater in Cannon Beach on Saturday night. There are also a couple of Holiday Bazaars that I will check out this weekend. I like to pick up a few "bakery" items to give away as gifts as I don't seem to have the time to get any of my own baking done.

Hanging Lights

On Thursday, after our Park and Recreation Committee meeting, the members got the City Park all decorated for the holidays. We strung lights on the various trees in the park and decorated the train station and public bathroom. The local telephone company brought in their bucket truck and hung the Christmas decorations on the telephone poles that run through town. We were able to talk the phone guy into staying and helping us get the top layer of lights on the tree, which really makes it festive. The Wheeler Business Association will be having a town party next weekend and we wanted to be able to "turn on" the lights at that time. We are even having Santa Claus arrive for the kids.

Next week looks like another drive into Portland as Dave has a couple of games. I am going to ride along on Tuesday and we will stay in town until Friday. Maybe I will be able to get some of my Christmas shopping done.
