IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

The weekend started out with me helping out with Wheeler's annual Crab Feed on Saturday. I was on the 11:30 to 2:30 shift and in spite of the nice weather, it didn't seem like we had as many people as we had had in the past. I worked with another volunteer who drove me crazy. He told me from the start that he was going to "load" up the plates to make sure that everyone had plenty to eat. Besides a half of a crab, there was shrimp cocktail, corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw and a roll, so for $14.50, people got more than enough to eat. Well, he was breaking up the crabs and giving people three-fourths of a crab and a heaping portion of shrimp and by the time he handed me the plate to put the corn and coleslaw on, there wasn't any room! I don't know if there was any profit that was made or not.

Dave was gone all weekend to announce the car races in Portland and we loaned one of our cars to my sister and brother-in-law while they have been visiting from Arizona, so my only means of transportation was either on foot or bicycle. I didn't mind as everything in town is within walking distance. I never did use the bike as I am suffering from sciatica and besides; it has been awhile since I have ridden a bike anyway! So it was probably wise to leave the bike parked at the house. I walked up town a couple of times (for dinner and breakfast) but other than that, I was too busy at home to go anywhere anyway.

Breakfast I worked out in the yard most of Sunday and Monday, trying to get our place in shape for company. As I said, my sister and brother-in-law are here and were spending the week with us and I wanted the place to look nice. Since our company has been here all week, we have been just relaxing around the house. Bob is writing a book and so this gave him some quiet time to work on that. Dave has had city council stuff to deal with all week and so Jeanne and I drove up to Seaside to the outlet mall to do some shopping. My sister loves to shop and I never get a chance. When I go visit her in Phoenix, that's what we do, so that's what we did here too! Thursday morning, they wanted to take us out for breakfast, so we went to the Bunkhouse, our usual Sunday morning breakfast haunt. They left today to visit family and friends in Portland and will leave for home next Wednesday. We have really enjoyed having them with us.

Leanna My sister-in-law, Leanna, had a birthday on Thursday so I invited her for dinner to celebrate. We fixed a salmon dinner and for dessert, a birthday cake. We had given her a birthday present earlier. A couple of months ago, she mentioned that she could use a wheelbarrow and I had an extra one that I never used so I gave it to her and wished her a "happy birthday". Since I broke her weed eater a couple of weeks ago, we got her a new one with the condition that I get to use it whenever I need it. Dave has his monster Shindawa weed whacker, but it's way too big for me and there are times I could use a smaller one, so Leanna and I will share her birthday present.

Our weather has been just perfect around 70 degrees and I can deal with that. Bob and Jeanne were so relieved to escape the hot desert heat of Arizona that 70 degrees felt really good to them. It was so hot the day they left that the airline was pleading with folks to take a later flight. They were giving them two-nights stay at a hotel and airline tickets. I guess when it gets too hot and because of the weight of a full airplane, they can't get off the ground. If Bob and Jeanne didn't have to be in Oregon by Friday, they would have taken them up on their offer.

This weekend we will have more company. Lara and Greg and the girls will be down for a visit. This is one of the last weekends this summer they'll have the time to visit, and besides, it's supposed to be hot in Portland this weekend and it will be nice here. On Sunday I will ride over to the valley with Dave and his friend, Ray. They are going to attend the Great Oregon Steam-Up in Brooks, Oregon while I go watch Paige play in another soccer tournament in Salem. We will be bringing Ashtin and Paige back with us to the coast where they will spend a few days with G-dad and G-ma.
