IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It is also my birthday today and I sure feel old, which I am! They say that your age is all in your head as to how you feel and the way this week has gone, I must be really old!! I have had tendonitis in my right elbow for about six weeks and I finally broke down and made an appointment with the doctor and went in to see him on Monday. My right knee has also been bothering me, but that is just arthritis. He gave me a cortisone shot (which really hurt) in the elbow and offered another for the knee but I felt one of those shots at one time was enough. I have been put on the injury list for two weeks. This means that I can't go to my water aerobics class, work in the yard or help get the steamboat ready for the 4th of July parade. Which also means that it sucks to just sit around and do nothing!!

Paige Last Saturday we took off and watched our 8-year old granddaughter, Paige (fancy feet) play soccer in a tournament at Cook Park in Tigard. The town was having a hot air balloon festival and there were other amusements going on too. The tournament was part of the festival. Paige played five games (Saturday and Sunday) and scored 8 goals. Her team won first place in the tournament, beating a team one age group older they are. We are so proud of her and she is such a joy to watch play. We may get another chance, because she has now been invited to play in another tournament later this month.

Ann Sunday was a special day for one of Wheeler's employees. We held a potluck for Ann Morgan, who has been a city clerk for twenty years and decided to retire. A lot of people came to the park to wish her well. Wheelerites are going to miss Ann, as she knows everyone and everything there is to know about our city government. She was going to retire last year but with the economy the way it was, she decided to work another year. The city has hired a replacement that started training in January, so you know she did a lot of things for the city.

Jan Between me nursing my sore elbow and knees and Dave hurting his back, we have been somewhat delayed about getting the steamboat ready for the parade. We decided it was now or never and took the boiler apart the other day to clean it. It is a two-man job and very messy too. Dave and I have a system worked out and together, we managed to get it cleaned out but putting the heavy metal top back on the boiler is hard work and Dave has been suffering ever since. Dave still has to de-winterize the boat and steam it up before the parade. The brass needs to be polished and the hull washed. Hopefully, the rest of the family can pitch in and help us.

Dave Part of the family showed up on Thursday in preparation of the 4th. Lara, Greg and girls arrived and brought a friend and her husband along. Cari and Lara were best buddies growing up in Hillsboro and they have stayed in touch even though Cari and Carlos now live in California. They're from Los Angeles and decided they needed a little of our rain, so they're visiting the area for a couple of weeks. We gave them their wish, but we hope it will stop raining by Sunday for the parade. They'll stay with us until Saturday. Lara & Greg will stay until Monday. Leslie, Jason and the girls will arrive on Saturday and we plan on having a barbeque down on Kahrs' wharf.
