IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I am trying to think of all I did last week besides watch it rain.

We did get a reprieve from the weather on Saturday for the picnic that was planned by the Benson Class Reunion Committee. Dave has graciously accepted being the MC for the Saturday evening reunion dinner in August and he has also been busy helping field the applications for the reunion from various classmates. Anyway, that got us invited to the picnic with a chance to get reacquainted with some of his fellow classmates. It so happens that the picnic was held at Glenwood on Highway 6 at the old trolley museum park that is now owned by one of his classmates. That part of the property has a couple of acres of grassy area alongside Gales Creek. We had a really nice day and everyone brought something to eat to go with the hamburgers and chicken that were furnished.

After the picnic we hurried back home as we had another function to attend. We went to the gala opening night of the Riverbend Readers Theater production of "Leading Ladies". It was a funny story about some down and out actors who posed as two nieces and only survivors of a wealthy woman so that they could inherit her riches. So there were a lot of men dressed as women and women dressed like men - pretty unusual for a Readers Theater presentation. Like I said, it was a really funny, especially after a couple of drinks of champagne!

I discovered a mouse in our house the other day. I entered the utility room and heard this squeaking noise and a scuffle of little feet in the cupboard. We haven't had any problems with mice or rats in the house but have seen a few outside. With all the birdseed I have, it's a wonder they haven't discovered the food sooner. I immediately checked the cupboards for any damage or tale-tale signs (there weren't any) and then I put all the birdseed under lock and key. I bring my bird feeders in at night to protect them from the raccoons and now I have to protect them inside from the mice! I ended up buying some poison and hopefully that will discourage the little dickens.

I ran into town on Thursday for a haircut and a mammogram. I also got a couple of errands done but was back home by dinnertime. Have I mentioned that it has been raining STILL? We did have a couple of nice days which I took advantage of and did some weed pulling, mowed the lawn and decided to plant the rest of my vegetable garden before it is too late. Other than that, while it has been raining, I have been getting caught up on some reading from some books that I bought at the book sale over Memorial Day weekend. The forecast looks good for the weekend and for the rest of the week. I hope so. Dave has to announce at the races in Portland all weekend, and he'll be out in the open with no protection from the weather. Now though, instead of catching cold, he may get sunburned! I don't think either of us is going to complain, though.

Dave and Ray spent a couple of days working on the church project again this week. They finally got all the mud sills and rim joists in and the walls stabilized so that the entire building is back down on its foundation. They were both relieved that this part of the project is over. Now we need to get a roofer in to patch the south side of the roof because I refuse to let either of them up there to do that. It's a very steep roof and it's really rotten in that one spot. They have decided to take a break from this project, as both of them need to get caught up on other things on their to-do list. Dave needs to get our steamboat ready for the parade on the 4th of July, which is just around the corner. He also was handed the editor's job for the quarterly publication for the steam society - again, so he has been spending every waking moment trying to meet that deadline. Some months ago, he had decided after five years that it was somebody else's turn to be the editor and had found a replacement for the job. But at the last minute the replacement decided that he couldn't handle it so Dave got the job back! Hopefully, they will find a replacement for him (please).

No pictures this week. It was either too wet and rainy, or it was too nice and we didn't want to stop to take photos! Maybe next week.
