IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I am looking at the calendar and can't believe that the month of April is over. Where did it go? I swear the older you get the faster time flies.

Dave As I mentioned last week, we left for town on Thursday as Dave had a Blazer playoff broadcast to work and then on Friday afternoon we attended the memorial service for his Aunt Harriet who had passed away on April 15th. It was a well-attended service held at the senior center in Tigard where she spent a lot of time with friends. Dave was asked to do the eulogy and then it was opened to the audience for sharing memories. Aunt Harriet was quite the collector and was involved in many things such as Loaves and Fishes and the Union Gospel Mission thrift store. She was 91 years of age and will be missed.

Saturday was another Blazer playoff game. I took Lara's two oldest daughters with me to drop Dave off at the Rose Garden. Then I took them shopping at a mall and out to lunch at McDonald's. The girls got to pick out one thing at the "Hello Kitty" store and a couple of books at the bookstore. They were really good girls and we had a fun time together.

Since the game was an early afternoon game, I picked Dave up after the game and we headed for home. We had a town hall meeting on Sunday and we didn't want to miss it. We were introduced to the City of Wheeler's new website and were really impressed. Check it out as they have everything about the city on the site.

I had a dentist appointment to get my teeth cleaned on Monday so I drove back into Hillsboro for that. After my appointment, I stopped to do a couple of errands and then it was back on the road again. I made it back home by 3:30 that afternoon.

I have been pretty busy this week, especially with the arrival of spring. Although it has been raining off and on all week, I did manage to do a little weeding. Most of the bedding plants that I bought are still in the greenhouse as it has been too cold for them outside. Hopefully by the middle of May, things should be ready to go. The sweet peas that I planted a couple of weeks ago have broken ground although I have had them protected with a couple of panes of window glass that I found at the thrift store. My lettuce is in the ground and the slugs have been enjoying them so I put out some slug bait. A good sign of spring around here is when my favorite little birds, the Goldfinches have arrived. There are so many that they look like tree ornaments with they land on the branches with their bright yellow feathers. Even my little squirrel made an appearance this week. I haven't seen him for quite awhile. We also spotted the elk on the island and I counted 52 in the herd. It is so neat living where I do, as every day I can look out my window over Nehalem Bay and find some wildlife to entertain me.

Kubota An update on the church progress - the guys replaced the south wall and were busy getting ready to raise the back wall into position when they decided they would check out the integrity of the north wall first. They didn't like what they found. It is in worse shape than they thought it would be, so part of that wall will have to be replaced too. The entire floor in the back of the building has been removed so the joists can be strengthened or replaced. Dave was trying to clear out more space and was using the Kubota to haul a heavy engine out of the building when gravity took over. He was able to jump free when it rolled over and nothing was hurt but his pride. Much to his chagrin, he had to call the towing company to get the tractor back on all fours! Dave and I spent Wednesday afternoon cleaning out more stuff to be burned or hauled off to the dump. We decided that this project is going to require more time and money than we have right now, so it is going to become an extended project.

Once again, I'm posting this a day early because it is back into Portland on Thursday for another Blazers playoff broadcast. If they don't win that game, the season is over and we will be able to plan our lives again. Still, I hope the team makes it to the second round, as it would really be exciting for them. Financially, it wouldn't be bad for us either! Go Blazers!!!
