IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Last weekend we wrapped up a bunch of things at home as I will be out of commission for about four weeks and won't be able to do the usual stuff around the place. I got the lawn mowed one last time, vacuumed the house and - since I'm gone for over a week - pretty much cleaned out the refrigerator.

I watched Dave perform in his play on Friday night. It was very well done and it was really funny. All of the one-act plays were very good, but I thought Dave's group was the best of the four performances. I may be just a little prejudiced! There weren't a lot of people that showed up for the play that night, but they had a better turn out on Saturday and Sunday. They were very pleased with the entire run of the performances. They got a lot of compliments and they were happy with the way it all went. After the play on Sunday, they got together for a cast party, but I didn't go because I had to get ready for my surgery on Monday. I didn't want my system too much out of whack from eating all kinds of food and drink.

Monday we got up at 3:00 a.m. for our two-hour drive into St. Vincent's for my 5:30 a.m. check-in. My surgery was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. We decided to spend the night at home and drive in that morning instead of coming into West Linn and then having to fight the traffic over to the hospital. I had to be there early because I was the first procedure on the schedule for my doctor. But after we got there, they said they had me down as number two and that they wouldn't begin until much later in the morning. After getting up at 3:00 and driving a hundred miles, we weren't too pleased to hear that! It turned out to be a computer mix-up and they decided I was going to be first after all. After getting poked and prodded for what seemed like an eternity, they finally wheeled me into the operating room. I don't remember a thing after that until I woke up in my room about three hours later. I was told that they almost had to give me an x-ray after my surgery as the doctor had lost a needle while she was sewing me up. She knew the needle flew over her shoulder, but since they couldn't find it, they were obligated to do the x-ray. It was only when they brought the machine in to take the picture that they finally found it on the floor. Leaving a needle inside me was information that I really didn't need to hear! Anyway, the doctor was pleased with the surgery and now my bladder is back where it is supposed to be. I had to spend the night at the hospital, but got to come home Tuesday morning. Both Dave and I were really impressed by all the hospital staff and I felt like they took really good care of me.

No pictures this week, unless you want to see my black and blue arms where they poked me with needles!

I've spent the rest of this week takin' it easy here at Lara and Greg's in West Linn. I am feeling better than anyone (including me) thought I would and I even got out to get my hair cut and nails done this week. Dave had a couple of Blazer broadcasts during the week and another one on Sunday, so we decided to just relax and stay in town all week. It has been great getting reacquainted with the granddaughters again. We've been talking, doing puzzles and reading, and Jaysa and I have been comparing surgeries. Since her's was for a tumor, she was sure that was why I had mine. Then her sister Jadyn wanted to know if she was going to have to have surgery too. After all, her sister, grandma and mom all had them, so in her 6-year-old mind, she was sure she was next. We told her that she just needed to take care of herself and she'd be OK. We also plan to go to Mt. Angel where Paige is going to be playing basketball on Saturday. Ashtin isn't playing this weekend as she is off bird hunting with her dad in eastern Oregon. She had so much fun last year, she could hardly wait to go again. I'll be anxious to hear how it went. After Paige's game, we'll drive to Hillsboro and spend the night with our friends, Stan and Terrie. We haven't seen them for ages and I am looking forward to catching up with them.

The weather has taken a turn for the worse again. They are having high winds of 50 miles per hour and several inches of rain at home. Luckily, we have everything put away so we shouldn't have anything to worry about while we're away. I am sure that after the winds, the yard will once again look like a battle zone. Well, there isn't much I can do about it as I have STRICT orders to take it easy until I am all healed up. Darn Mother Nature!!
