IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jan, George, Margie We ended our trip to Ashland after the Shakespeare Festival with a Friday night stay with our friends, George and Margie in Redmond. Our drive over there is always pleasant as we take the route via Crater Lake. We arrived around 4:00 p.m. and George gave us a tour of his metal and wood shops. He is quite the welder and blacksmith and has made quite a few projects that he has displayed around his home. He has made all the towel racks in his home and various artistic and useful things too. George and Margie just returned from a trip to Scotland so we got to hear about all their travel experiences. Margie arrived around 6:00 and George fixed us a steak dinner that we ate out on his patio. His home is located up on a bluff way out in the country and has a spectacular view of the high desert region.

Jadyn & Jaysa Jordyn After breakfast the next morning, we left for a 6-hour journey back home. Lara, Greg and the girls had arrived on Friday at our place and were spending the Labor Day Weekend without us. It started raining when we got to Sisters and rained most of the way home. Saturday wasn't any better as it rained and was windy most of that day. We ended up spending most of our time indoors playing with the Wii and being entertained by the granddaughters. Sunday, the kids decided to head home to prepare for the beginning of school. Jadyn is in first grade this year and Jaysa will be attending preschool.

What looked like a quiet week ahead turned out pretty busy after all. Dave had an unscheduled rehearsal on Monday afternoon for the play that he is in called "Waiting for the Bus". The play only has three characters and one of those is a very minor part. The woman who plays the other major character was going to be gone for the next couple of weeks and they wanted a chance to go through the play before she left. In this play, Dave's character gets hit by a bus at the end of the play. (Oops, I shouldn't spoil it for anyone who is going to go see it). Actually, there are four one-act plays in this Fall's production at NCRD. Dave is in just this one.

It rained most of the week so I spent most of my time reading one of the books that I had picked up in a second-hand store in Ashland. It is by a new author I haven't read before and it is a mystery about a detective lady who owns a floral shop (mainly herbs). By Thursday, I was almost through with the book, but had to set it down to run some errands. The sun had come out and we decided to run into Tillamook first thing in the morning. We needed to have blood drawn in order to renew our cholesterol prescription and we also had to go to the Tillamook landfill with a small load of junk that we had collected from last week's boat barn cleanup. So with trailer in tow, we headed out before breakfast. We like to combine any auto trips we do because of the price of gas and the distance we have to go to get anywhere. We got back home by 10:00 and I fixed us something to eat.

Diggin’ out the dam As the city councilor who lives closest to the project, Dave was given the assignment of monitoring the dam that is being removed up above the city. It's an old dam that was built to provide the water supply for the town. Since we get our water from underground wells now, the dam was no longer needed. Besides, it was starting to leak. Since it's right up above our place that did concern us a little. The ecological group that is renewing the fish habitat in that stream volunteered to take out the dam as part of their project, and the city jumped at the chance to get it removed for free. Anyway, he has been busy running back and forth representing the city's interests in the removal process. It's about a half-mile hike from the end of the road, so he's been getting a lot of much needed exercise too! Also, since the rain had dampened the ground enough for Des to get permission to burn, he called on Dave to help him with his burn pile. Usually, we can't burn at any time during the summer, but since it has been so wet, they gave him a couple of hours to get it done. It was a huge pile, but in spite of the rain, it was basically dry stuff that had been there all summer and it burned completely by mid afternoon. Meanwhile, I was back home and I decided to harvest the dandelions that were on display in our lower yard...so that took most of my afternoon.

Forty-four years! Yes, September 11th is our wedding anniversary. I must say I really made the right decision to marry that guy! Our wedding years have been challenging at times but in the long run, I wouldn't want it any other way. We are going to celebrate by going out to dinner at this nice place in Manzanita. We had to make reservations and everything! There's even a chance I might get Dave out of his old jeans and into some nice clothes! We've heard some good things about the restaurant, but have never been there, so I'll do a "review" next week.

This was going to be the week with nothing to do. It seems like even when we don't have anything marked on the calendar, things always come up!
