IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It's been another busy week, full of family, meetings and appointments.

Jadyn Jordyn The Dewey's came down last Friday for the weekend. It's always great to have them as I don't get into town that much to get my hugs from the granddaughters. Lara and Greg came down to get their family portrait taken and to do some crabbing. The girls had a great time while they were here. The first thing they wanted to do was to play the Wii games so we started that up for them. Jadyn especially likes to play the boxing and bowling games. She is getting pretty good at bowling with a record breaking score of 265! That girl scored seven strikes in a row!! She also likes to take her aggressions out on the poor opponent in the boxing ring and always manages to get a knock out! Then there is the baby who is growing up too fast! She had to mimic the older sisters with the microphone. Needless to say, they kept Grandma and Granddad entertained.

On Saturday, we had the photographer and her husband for lunch. Lara knows her from West Linn, and they also have a place in Manzanita. So they had planned to meet them down here to have the family picture taken on the beach. It had been a few years since the last family portrait (Jordyn wasn't even born). I am anxious to see how the pictures turned out.

Jaysa & Jadyn We did have one disappointment over the weekend. When Dave tried to steam up the boat to put it in the water, he discovered a leak in the whistle valve. It seems the rough ride home from Blaine was just too much for that pipe and it broke right at the valve. As a result, we had to order a replacement (big bucks!!!) valve, and we hope we can get the boat back in the water before we leave for Ashland in another week. So, while we couldn't ride in the big boat, Dave got the little outboard boat out and got it ready for the Deweys to go crabbing on Sunday. We babysat Jordyn while the rest of the family caught crabs. They were gone a couple of hours but came back with about ten nice big crabs so that should make a nice meal for them.

River Surfer We saw the craziest thing on the bay the other day, two people standing on surfboards paddling up the river (We've since learned they're called "Paddleboards" - duh). It sure looked like a lot of work. Speaking of the bay, it sure looks different not to see any boats fishing in front of our place. Since the Fish and Wildlife have put a restriction on Chinook in the Nehalem River, they are not allowing anyone to fish for them this year. It really looks deserted. I guess the only thing good about the whole situation is that in the past we usually have a big "outboard motor" oil slick around the boat after it has been docked at Kahrs' wharf and when we pulled it out a couple of weeks ago to take to the steam meet, there wasn't one.

It seems like there was something going on all week. Dave had a workshop on Monday night, a city council meeting on Tuesday, an audition for the upcoming Reader's Theater play on Wednesday and he helped a friend of ours pull his sailboat out of the water in Astoria today. I had a Garden Club officer's meeting on Tuesday, an Emergency Preparedness meeting on Wednesday and I had to run into Portland on Thursday for some quick birthday shopping for Ashtin and a hair appointment. It seems like everything happens at once!

A group of us from the North Coast Recreation District are going to a play called "Shanghaied in Astoria" tonight. We'll carpool, meet for dinner and then attend the play. I guess we get to "boo and hiss" and throw popcorn at the villians, so it sounds like a fun evening. Sunday, Wheeler Station Antiques is having a pizza party for all the dealers and since I sell a few trinkets a year up there, we have been invited to that.
