IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Pallottas It was a busy week filled with visitors. The Pallotta family spent Friday and Saturday nights with us. Bob works with video at the Blazer games and Dave had asked him to come down to video record the reader's theater play that he is doing. Friday was the opening of the play and we all went and watched the performance and then on Saturday night, Bob, his wife Paula and their eleven year-old son worked at recording the play. They had several cameras and the whole family was involved in the production. It turned out well. The play was a "who-done-it" comedy and the Pallottas did a great job with the video. I might add, that while the Pallottas were visiting, we also had another visitor - a young deer wandered into our yard while eating breakfast. That was a real surprise, as I haven't seen any deer that close to our house before. It was almost as though he showed up just to impress our guests! Also our little squirrel, Julio stopped by. I haven't seen him for such a long time that I thought a cat might have gotten him.

Deer Jordyn We sort of pushed the Pallottas out the door after breakfast on Sunday. It was Father's Day and we had plans for a lunch at Leslie and Jay's in Silverton and Lara and Greg were coming too. I was anxious to see how my little granddaughter Jaysa was getting along after her surgery. It is so wonderful to see her running and laughing like a typical four-year old again. The Pallotta's didn't mind leaving early Sunday, as they wanted to head home so that they could celebrate on their own. We got into Silverton around 1:00 and we had a nice hamburger BBQ. We watched Ashtin with her pig training (she is going to auction off the pigs in July at the County Fair). I also got a dozen fresh eggs from Paige. Lara's girls enjoyed the farm animals, especially little Jordyn who was fascinated by the chickens.

Ashtin & Chops Jan I've been talking for the past two weeks about the things I've been doing while training to work with the Red Cross. Since I first volunteered, there have been stacks of paperwork to fill out and send in. We had a meeting on Monday and I had a picture taken for my ID badge and then spent the rest of the hour filling out even more paperwork. I HATE filling out forms! Especially when they keep asking for exactly the same information on each form I fill out. Anyway, there was so much paperwork and so many repetitive forms that it took three stamps to mail it by the time I got everything completed.

We had our final Garden Club meeting of the year on Tuesday. It was a tour of three gardens in the area. It had been raining pretty hard all day on Monday but the "garden gods" provided us with sunny weather by Tuesday, so we had a nice tour. We had election of officers and after two years, I finally handed over the job of secretary to someone else. While I was doing that, Dave was working at City Hall. The office manager had a dental appointment in Portland and there was no one else to keep the office open. She had asked for volunteers from the city council members and Dave was still taking it easy after his cataract surgery so he stepped up. He had to answer the phones and greet people who came in. He also had to put the flag up and down. It wasn't very busy that day so he did okay.

I spent a few hours each day (between rain showers) working in the yard and I think I have made it completely around the house. There are still small projects to be completed like trimming the ivy and cleaning out a flowerbed by the driveway, but I feel I can relax a bit and enjoy some of the summer. We are eating peas and lettuce from the garden. My tomatoes have reached the top of the greenhouse ceiling and there are lots of blooms but no tomatoes yet. The green beans, carrots and beets are on their way and I am looking forward to those veggies later on.

I had a couple of doctor appointments on Wednesday in Hillsboro, and after my appointments, I went shopping. I had a $15 coupon at Coldwater Creek and they were having a sale. I came home with a new shirt and pants that I really don't need. My closet space is bulging at the seams as it is, but I just couldn't resist. I guess I need to clean out a few things that I don't wear anymore. I also stopped at Costco and Fred Meyer before I returned home.

My first doctor appointment was with the ear, nose and throat specialist. I have been having some trouble with my ears itching all the time and it was driving me crazy. However, by the time I got in to see the doctor, all was better with my ears. Isn't that the way it goes? At the urging of Dave, I also had a hearing test. He thinks I am hard of hearing but to his surprise my test came out normal so I am not going deaf after all! I think my brain just tunes out sometimes at certain things so I really need to concentrate. I think it is called "getting old".

My next appointment was with the Ob/Gyn for my annual checkup. The doctor discovered a hernia that needs to be repaired so he is sending me to a specialist at St. Vincent. I made an appointment for July and we will go from there. From what the doctor tells me, there is about a 2-month recovery period from the surgery and if that is the case, the procedure is going to have to wait until this winter sometime when I can sit around and watch it rain while I am recovering.

Dave will be busy with the Reader's Theater production as they are staging the play again tonight, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. The two performances last weekend were quite successful and a lot of people attended. There will be a "cast party" after the last performance on Sunday so that should be fun.
