IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

All things considered, I think things are beginning to feel normal around here. I have been busy getting "caught up" with various projects in the yard this week between visits from various friends and meetings I have attended.

While Dave was busy announcing the Rose Cup races in Portland all weekend, I managed to finish my yard work that I had started a week ago. Now it is time to start all over again! Not really, but the weeds do seem to be never-ending. I managed to load our big trailer full of yard debris that we will take down to the Kahrs' burn pile next week. I also cleaned out the French drain that was almost buried with dirt. In order to recycle the river rock that was embedded in the drain, I shoveled and sifted the dirt through wire screen thus saving me from picking out all the rocks by hand. It was quite a job and after two wheelbarrows full of dirt and a bucket of rocks I have one side of the drain done and the other side to go.

We had some dear steamboat friends, Tom and Marge Kane drop by Monday afternoon, and we had a real nice visit with them over lunch. They had been to a steam meet on Klamath Lake and were on their way back home to Bainbridge Island in Washington. It is always nice to see them.

George & Margie On Tuesday evening, some other friends that live in Bend spent the night. George and Margie had been here last summer and stopped back hoping for some fishing or crabbing. Not much of that going on this year, so we just sat around and talked. They had been in the Seattle area doing some bicycling and dropped in on their way back home. They took us out to dinner at the Sea Shack Tuesday evening and since it was such a beautiful evening, we enjoyed our meal out on the deck overlooking the Nehalem River.

Dave has been busy with rehearsals each day as the opening of their play is tonight and - as usual - they don't think they're ready! They've had several cast members that have had to drop out for various reasons and so half the cast is working with only a few rehearsals. On top of that, yesterday Dave had cataract surgery on his right eye and he was having trouble "focusing" on his part in yesterday's rehearsal! It's tough to do reader's theater when you can't read! He's hoping his vision will clear by the time they open tonight. He goes back to see the doctor today for his post-op appointment. Next month, he hopes to have the other eye done. The doctor asked him if he wanted to be far-sighted or near-sighted and since he has always been near-sighted, he decided it would be nice to be able to see things far away. I am far-sighted and we always complemented each other with our eyesight, so it will be interesting to see how things go.

We are having more friends stay with us for the weekend. The Pallotta family is coming down as Bob Pallotta is going to videotape the play that Dave is in. Bob works with Dave at the Blazer games and is quite an accomplished video guy, so the group will have first-class video - even if they don't think they'll have a first-class performance. I plan to attend the play on Saturday night, so I'll have a review next week.

Update on Jaysa - She had the staples removed this week, and I guess that was not a pleasant experience, but Lara took her for a ride on the tram afterward as a reward, so all was good!

She's having some residual problems with her left eye. The tumor was in such a tight spot that apparently they nicked a nerve that has some control over her eye and eyelid. The lid droops just a little, and she didn't do well visually in a follow-up eye exam. But the bottom line is: she's getting around like there was never a problem and there IS NO CANCER! So all in all, things are very good.

Leslie and her girls have come down with some kind of skin infection that they evidently contracted while working in their yard. The doctors though it was Chicken Pox and Leslie had to stay home from work for a couple of days. Now the doctor decided that it is Scabies and they are treating it with some lotion. It is highly contagious so I don't know if we are going to get together with them for Father's Day or not!

We are having our annual Crab Feed this weekend in Wheeler so, along with our guests and a play to attend, there will be lots to keep us entertained.
