IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jan After working last Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the plant sale, I can breath a big sigh of relief that it's over for another year! The sale was quite a success with a large turnout. We made about $4700 in four hours for our efforts. Most of that money will be distributed to various charities throughout the community, so that always makes me feel good. We also had a large number of volunteers contribute this year, so it made every thing go a lot smoother.

After the sale on Saturday afternoon, Dave and I packed our bags and headed into town. Stan and Terrie (our friends that we went to Nevada with) made plans to take the two couples that let us use their condo in Mesquite out to dinner as a thank you. We had a terrific prime rib dinner at the Reserve Golf Club in Hillsboro. Considering that these were people that we had never met before, it was amazing that we all hit it off so well. We talked for hours before the restaurant almost had to kick us out so they could turn out the lights! We had such a great time. We spent that night with Stan and Terrie and the next day we headed over to Lara and Greg's for Mother's Day brunch and birthday celebrations.

Jason, Leslie, Jaysa Greg fixed a wonderful brunch of scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, cinnamon rolls and French toast. It was nice of Greg to let the girls have the day off from cooking. After brunch, we watched Jaysa, Leslie and Jason open their birthday presents. Then we sang happy birthday and ate cake! It was really nice. I got a couple of things from the girls for Mother's Day, a geranium plant from Leslie's family and a wooden bench to set plants on from Lara's family. I feel so lucky to have such wonderful daughters.

Jan We traveled back home on Sunday afternoon and the traffic coming back from the coast was really heavy. To pass the time while he drove, Dave counted a stream of over 40 cars in one batch that passed us. The average stream of cars was 20 to 25 at a time. I'm glad they were all going the other way! We got home and kind of unwound from all the activities.

It started raining again and so that was how most of the week went. Neither one of us felt real well this week, so we mostly just sat around watching it rain. We did get away once when we had to make another run into Hillsboro to pick up Dave's hearing aid. It broke a week ago and he needed to get it repaired. It was ready on Thursday so we drove in to pick it up. I went along and did some shopping while Dave got his haircut. By the time we got back home, the sun was shining, so I took advantage of the timing and planted some flowers in my pots. We are supposed to have nice weather for the next couple of days so I hope to get some yard work done over the weekend.

Nest We had a couple of pairs of Evening Grosbeaks that came to the feeders looking for some sunflower seeds. They were quite a sight. We have been having a time with the Rock Doves who lurk in the trees. When I'm not watching, they swoop down and clean the out the feeders like a herd of vacuum cleaners! They will suck the seeds right out of the feeders in no time, so I am always on guard for them. There must be dozens in the flock and when I scare them off, they sound like a swarm of helicopters! I also discovered that a Blue Jay is constructing a rather messy nest under the deck. We can watch from our office downstairs and it is quite interesting to observe. She is still bringing twigs to build it, so I don't know if she has laid any eggs yet. I will keep you posted.
