IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Life’s good! I went with Dave into town last weekend. He had a game on Saturday and I spent the day in West Linn, helping Lara get ready for the big day. We started out on Sunday with a big birthday party for my youngest granddaughter Jordyn, who turned one. She was so excited having all the attention and enjoyed eating the wrappings from her gifts more than the actual gift itself. She had a field day with the birthday cake too. What a mess! Lara immediately had to put her in the bathtub to get all the frosting out of her hair, ears, nose and where ever else frosting can get into. Leslie and Jason came up from Silverton with their girls, so we were able to see all of them over the weekend. It was a good day.

Cake After the party, we raced back home so we could watch the Super Bowl on the new 52" flat screen television we got a while back. We recorded it because we knew we wouldn't be home for the beginning of the game. We are really not big football fans but stuck it out to the end - hoping that Arizona could pull it off. We usually watch the Super Bowl just for the funny commercials they usually run, but we were even disappointed in most of those. Needless to say, the game got erased right away.

Walking everywhere After being away from our reading program at school for several weeks because of Martin Luther King Day, an in-service day for the teachers and I think there was one time the school was closed due to the weather, we finally got back into that. It seemed like it has been awhile. The fourth graders were glad to see us anyway and it felt good to get back on schedule again. We each read with 4 or 5 kids, and the hour just seems to race by!

Dave had a physical on Tuesday and the doctor said he was as healthy as a horse. Dr. Hill gave me most of the credit for feeding him right; even though Dave complains about some of the stuff I make him eat, like oatmeal. His knees are still killing him and the doctor had him make an appointment next week to see the orthopedic surgeon. I sure hope that they can give him some relief for the arthritis pain. There is this new product out made from rooster's combs, which is injected into the joints. Maybe he can get some of that! The family doctor said he thought there were three options: cortisone, the "rooster" injections, or total knee replacement. Dave thinks there will be a lot of bald roosters running around before he consents to the knee replacement!

Cousins For a guy who is supposed to be healthy, Dave has sure been to the doctor a lot! In addition to his knees, he went to see an ophthalmologist about his eyes on Thursday. He has known for a couple of years that he has been developing cataracts and so he needed to follow up on that. It looks like he will be scheduled to have a cataract removed in his right eye sometime in May.

I am still holding down the fort and my health seems to be pretty good. My knee bothers me now and then when I use it too much. I think going to my water aerobics classes helps. But believe me, it is all maintenance from now on.

Portrait We did have a couple of nice days and I got outside and tangled with the brush alongside the road. We have this climbing rose bush that has taken over! It's more like a tree! It is beautiful when it blooms during the summer but it sure is out of control. It just about got the best of me a few times and I have the scratches to prove it! With this nice weather, I am itching to start planting seeds but must control myself for a month or so. I was at the garden store the other day and couldn't resist picking up some seeds to sow later.

Lara had Jordyn's picture taken for her first birthday. I thought it turned out great and wanted to share!

We have been enjoying the variety of birds that have been coming to the feeders. We counted the usual Oregon Juncos, Chick-a-dees, and a few sparrows. We also have had some Varied Thrush, Towhees, woodpeckers, a yellow Warbler and the Red Wing Blackbirds are here. Of course I couldn't forget to mention the ever-present Blue Jays. Also, my token squirrel made the scene. We also have Yellowtail Hawks in the area, and all the rest of the birds head for cover whenever he flies over! Even though the groundhog saw his shadow on Monday and predicted six more weeks of winter, I am hoping that spring is just around the corner.
