IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Do you realize that today is my 4th anniversary since I started writing this journal? Time really goes by and sometimes if it weren't for the prodding of Dave, it probably wouldn't get done, so I have to thank him for all the effort that goes into this blog. I write it, but he edits it, does all the work with the pictures and then gets it up on the Internet.

Pallotta's We started out by having guests last Friday night. The Pallotta family arrived in the afternoon. Bob fills in for us when we need an extra engineer for the Blazer games and since I won't be working the games next year, Dave has asked him to do the Spanish broadcasts. He has a lovely family, his wife, Paula and their two children, Robert Jr. who is ten and his sister Nina, age seven. They are originally from Long Island and have been out on the West Coast for about three years. They still have their Eastern accents and I find them fascinating to listen to. Since Friday was the local Farmer's Market in Manzanita, we headed over there to check it out and then we stopped at a new pizza place in Nehalem for dinner. The pizza was fine and they were really busy. Since the place has just opened, the staff was still trying to get their act together and we had to wait about 45 minutes for our pizza. This wasn't so good, especially when you have two starving kids wanting their food! They stayed over night and left after I fed them a huge pancake breakfast the next morning. It was fun to have them and I hope they come again.

Horseshoe Pits Saturday, the Park and Recreation Committee had planned a workday up at the Upper Park, and Dave and I decided to join them. We helped them set forms to be filled with concrete for horseshoe pits. We are going to have horseshoe tournaments during the weekends starting in July. The WHO (Wheeler Horseshoe Open) was a brainstorm of one of our committee members and it will also bring in some revenue for our city. Anyway, it took all day for the guys to measure, dig out and level the pits on Saturday. The cement truck came in on Thursday to pour the concrete, so it was another long day then too. It was a big job but we got it done. We were so tired from digging and hauling cement that most of us had to take a couple days off to recuperate! We'll probably have to take the Kubota up there sometime next week and help set the posts and then the area will be ready for horseshoers! After all this work, Dave is convinced that horseshoes belong on the horses, not in parks!

Since my childcare days are over and I am back home for good, I am still trying to play catch up with the weeds around here. I spent one afternoon hacking down brush along the side of the hill by the church. Dave comes and checks on me and waits for me to drop over with exhaustion. I keep telling him that "I am almost done" and he got mad at me one day and told me that he was going to have that engraved on my tombstone! He's been busy too; he spent a couple of days getting the outboard boat ready for the season. Motor works, lights work and he even dug out the canopy to keep the sun off. Now all we have to do is find some time to actually get out and use the thing!

Since I have been sitting around on my tail end babysitting for the last six weeks, I decided it was time to get back to my water aerobics classes. Monday was my first day back and I could really feel that I was out of shape. There were 22 gals in attendance on Monday, which is usually the case at the beginning of the semester, but by the second or third week, just the regulars are there. It makes for some crowded conditions, but we all manage to find a place in the water to splash around.

On Tuesday, we had our last Garden Club meeting before the summer break. We always do a local tour of some the club member's homes. This time, we toured three places out on Highway 53. Our first garden was at the home of Serena and Les Schults. They live on four acres right on the Nehalem River. The second place was at the Greenway's right on Hwy. 53. I have driven by there several times admiring their lovely yard. We had lunch and a meeting there and held our election of officers for next year. I will be secretary again. I enjoyed it last year and decided since they have a hard time getting anyone to fill the positions, that I would do it again. Our final garden was at the home of Constance and Don Shimek where we had dessert and enjoyed their lovely surroundings. She had a lot of garden art on display. The garden club will have the summer off and will start up again in September.

We did take Wednesday off from yard work to make a run into town. Both Dave and I had scheduled doctor appointments, plus I got my hair cut and toes and fingernails done. While Dave was waiting for me to get all beautified, he ran a bunch of errands and we finally headed back home around 6:00. We did manage to get everything done and that is always a good feeling.

Today, I have to fill in at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center and Dave is going to go crabbing with a friend of his. I sure wish that I could go along but I was already committed at the chamber. Maybe next time. The weather should be pretty good, so let's hope the crabbing is also.

Lara and Greg will be down next week. They, along with Leslie and Jason's family will be staying for the 4th of July parade. Our friends Stan and Terrie Boyd and their daughter will be here too, so it will be a nice houseful. It is a tradition that we trailer the steamboat in the parade and everyone throws candy to the crowd while Dave toots the steam whistle. Afterwards, we come back to the house for a barbeque and watch the fireworks. We still have to get the steamboat ready for the parade, which means washing the boat and polishing the brass. A big job.

Oh yes. Did you notice that I haven't complained about the weather? Summer finally got here! It's been in the 70's this week and is supposed to get over a hundred in Portland over the weekend. That means 80's or even 90's down here. I'd rather have the 70's, but we'll take the nice weather!
