IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Not much to write about this week. Today is the first day of summer and it sure doesn't feel like it. It has been so cold around here that everyone is calling this month "June-uary".

Let's see. Let's go back a week. I got home last Friday night and while at home on Saturday I helped with the Crab Festival that our little town puts on each year. I helped serve crab from 11:30 to 2:30 and then I sat at the raffle booth and helped sell tickets to several baskets of goodies they were raffling off. It was to benefit the Park and Recreation in Wheeler and since I am on that committee, I figured I had better help. Dave had taken off early that morning for Seattle to attend the board meeting for the Northwest Steam Society and wouldn't be home until late, so it was a good time for me to help out. The town was packed with people and the event was a huge success!

On Sunday, Dave and I worked out in the yard pulling weeds and cutting the grass. I had him doing yard work (which he hates) and other stuff because we are having overnight company this weekend and I wanted the place to look halfway decent. I came home on Friday and turned around on Sunday and went back to West Linn for my last week of babysitting. I am sure Dave was glad to see the slave driver leave town!

A funny thing came of all that work. I guess I really don't know when to call it quits and so the day after I work in the yard, I ache from head to toe. Dave knows this and tries to get me to pace myself and take a break once in a while. I didn't realize it, but I guess my stock answer to him is, "I'm almost done". And then I'll work for two more hours. He finally got frustrated with my answer on Sunday, because he said, "I'm going to put 'I'm almost done' on your tombstone!!" We laughed about that, and I think it would sum things up pretty well!

On Tuesday night, Lara, Greg and I took the girls to the local Farmer's Market in West Linn. The girls like to go see the little kittens and cats that the PAWS have up for adoption. You walk into this room and it is filled with cats everywhere. I spotted this huge black and tan cat that was lounging on a shelf and started to pet it and rub its neck. Before I knew it, the cat had grabbed my arm and was going for my juggler vein! I am not a cat lover and I suppose it sensed it. Who knows? Besides the cats and kittens, the girls enjoyed the bouncy house and slide while we ate authentic Mexican burritos.

Well, my babysitting days are over for now, and I must admit I am going to miss those little ones. I enjoyed bonding with my grandchildren, especially the new one. She is such a good baby and all three of the girls were easy to take care of as they can amuse themselves very well. Their babysitter - who just graduated from high school - was back on Thursday. She and some friends had gone to Orlando, Florida for a week to celebrate that school was out and now she will be taking over for the rest of the summer. It was fun babysitting, but I am glad to be back home getting caught up with all the stuff around here.

The garden is finally taking off. After re-planting my beans because the critters had pulled them out by the roots and my cucumbers because the slugs had made a meal out of them, things are coming along. My tomato plant - or I should say tomato tree - that I have in the greenhouse is huge! I came home and it is up to the ceiling and has blossoms on it. I don't know what is going on with that. I usually haven't had much luck with tomatoes since I have moved to the coast. That is why I grow them in the greenhouse.

I have a busy week coming up. On Tuesday our garden club will wrap up its final meeting until this fall with a tour of some local gardens and election of officers. I was secretary last year and told them that I would do it again if nobody else wanted too. I'm pretty sure that since I said that, no one else is going to volunteer! On Thursday, both Dave and I have doctor's appointments in Hillsboro and then I am getting a haircut. It will be a quick trip into town. Since gas has gone up, we are planning our trips more conservatively, and we try to group our appointments whenever possible.

We have some friends from our work with the Blazers coming to spend the night tonight, and on Wednesday, a friend of Dave's from his race announcing crew is bringing his boat down here to try his luck at crabbing. Crabbing has been terrible, but at least he'll get a chance to try out his new boat. And if there's a chance to get out on the water, Dave will be there!

No pictures this week. I didn't have the camera with me in West Linn, so there's nothing really to take pictures of except me washing the windows and mowing the lawn. I'll spare you those visions!
