IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jan’s herbs I keep saying this, but I had another busy week!

It started out last Saturday at the annual Nehalem Bay Garden Club sale. I helped set up on Friday and the sale started on Saturday at 9:00 AM sharp. It gets so crazy at this sale every year. We're just a bunch of women who like to grow things and offer them for sale to the public once a year. People drive from all around to get here and pick stuff up for a great price. People started to line up early at the doors to get in so that they could have the best selection. I was in charge of the herb table and we had all kinds of plants to choose from. Of course, the garden club members got first choice of everything before the sale began and we spent over $600! There is nothing like buying back your own plants! We didn't have as many plants as in the past years because of our terrible spring weather but the sale was a great success anyway, and we made over $4,500 in a matter of four hours! Most of the money will go back into the community, which really makes everyone profit.

Birdhouse Leslie, Jaysa & Jason We had Lara, Greg and the girls down for the weekend. Although it rained most of the time they were here and it was too cold and windy for the beach, they still got a chance to unwind and relax a little. We were looking for activities to keep them busy. Dave had found some plans for a birdhouse when Ashtin said she wanted to learn how to build one. Since she wasn't going to make it to our place this weekend, granddad got Jadyn and Jaysa involved. They really had a lot of fun. Jaysa was pretty good with the nail gun - you just didn't want to be in her way! On Sunday, Mother's Day, we met Jason and Leslie and their girls at Camp 18 for brunch. We had reservations at 1:00 and we didn't have to wait too long. The place was really crowded and I am glad we had reservations as some folks had to wait for over two hours! We were able to eat downstairs which wasn't nearly as crowded, and it was an all-you-can-eat buffet, so no one went hungry! Since it was also a celebration of a combination of three birthdays, Leslie, Jaysa and Jason, we brought a birthday cake along and opened presents. It was a great day.

The sun managed to come out on Monday and so I got the lawn mowed and some more weeding done. It has been so wet, that I have to take advantage of every break in the clouds that we get! We also had our last SMART reading session of the year. They ended it a month or so earlier this year...I guess they figured they had enough to keep the kids busy in their regular classroom for the final month of school. We both thought it was a bit harder to work with the kids this year. I don't know if it's just that we had kids that couldn't read as well or if there was some other reason. Dave had two boys all year that were probably ADD kids. All we know how to do is read with the kids, and they had issues that made that difficult. So we weren't exactly disappointed to see the year end. We'll probably do it again next year, because all in all, it's worth it to see your student reading better at the end of the year than at the beginning. So, after SMART and after I finished with my yard work, I left that evening for West Linn to babysit for Lara and Greg all week.

Jan & her girls Jaysa The babysitting is working out pretty good. Since Jadyn is away most of the mornings because she attends preschool, I just have the two little ones. Jaysa, who is three, is easily entertained and of course baby Jordyn just has to be fed and changed once in awhile. Jordyn is three months old already and is changing daily. She is cooing and smiling now and is getting so strong that can hold her little head up. Yesterday she managed to scoot herself out of the little chair we set her in so we have to buckle her in from now on. I get the biggest kick out of Jaysa, she insists on wearing her ballet suit and the other day she came in with striped tights and her cowboy boots, so I had to take her picture. I'm staying in town an extra day this week. Greg and Lara had a lot going on, so I stayed to watch the kids on Friday too.

I head back home today to see how the home front is doing. Dave has been pretty patient about being left alone all week by himself. Even though it's been rainy and cold all week, he's been busy with his physical therapy and also with getting ready for the next play. He's going to be the director on this production, and that means he has to begin early to get a play selected and get everything ready for when rehearsals begin in August. He enjoys it and it keeps him out of trouble! Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting home. I always have so much to get caught up with for the few days that I am home but it won't last forever. I stopped at the nursery and brought some vegetables to plant as the weather has been in the 80's and the ground should be drying out enough to plant a garden. I was going to wait until the end of May, but I think it will be okay to start now. I just hope the warm weather lasts until after I get home!
