IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Happy New Year First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! We enjoyed our time with the four granddaughters on New Year's Eve. They wore the horns and hats that I had bought them while we watched a movie and ate kettle corn and ice cream. Everyone started to fade around 9:00 so we figured it was midnight somewhere in the world and rang in the New Year. Then we had this big debate as to where everyone was going to sleep. Of course, they all wanted to sleep on the top bunk and they ended up with one (the youngest) on top and the other three on the bottom double bed. Well, that didn't last for long as it was too crowded and it didn't take much persuading for one of them to sleep downstairs on the futon. The next morning we packed up the two oldest (Ashtin and Paige) and headed back down to the coast for a few days.

Snow! As we were going over the river and through the woods we ran into some serious snow and the girls were all excited so we stopped at the rest area and let them play around for a while. They didn't have any gloves to wear so when their fingers were about frozen off, they decided that that was enough. We got home around noon and spent the rest of the day playing card and board games. They got the game "Clue" for Christmas and Ashtin loves it, so we played a lot of Clue! She thought the game would make a good movie and was trying to work out a screenplay when Grandad told her they had already made one! One thing led to another, and the two of them ended up on eBay and he taught her how to bid on something she wants. So now she has her own copy of the movie "Clue" coming in the mail and she is so excited, she can hardly contain herself!

Ice Cream Since it was windy and rainy outside and it was too yucky for the beach, we took them down to the Tillamook Cheese Factory the next day. They love watching them process the cheese and there is always the treat of a dish of ice cream. Afterwards I did a little shopping at Fred Meyers while we were in town and then we came back home and watched a movie. Since they were pretty good kids while they were here, Dave brought out the penny jar and they got to count out 200 pennies apiece to take home with them.

Ashtin Paige On Thursday, I had a meeting in Portland regarding my mother, so I packed up the girls to take them with me. I had arranged to drop the girls off at Lara's for the afternoon before my meeting and then Leslie would pick them up after she got off work. They are still on school break and thought that a change from the day care would help so we hope that the girls enjoyed their brief stay at Grandma and Granddad's house. After my meeting, I raced out of Portland before the 5:00 traffic started. I got back home around 5:45 PM, which made a 200-mile round trip a very long day of driving.

I have to tell a little story about what happened to me. For Christmas, I received this beautiful toaster from Leslie and Jason. It is very high-tech and I decided that I had better read the instructions before using it. Not that making toast is that hard. Anyway, the toaster has this electronic dial on the front that regulates the time. All I have to do is move the digital settings for toast done just right! The only problem was, I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. I moved the dial and moved the dial and nothing happened. It just showed this big number 8 on the screen, and it wouldn't change no matter what I did. Being frustrated, I called on Dave to help me figure it out and of course it didn't take him long. You see, there was this "fake" tab on the front of the dial with a great big number 8 on it. I guess to show us what it's supposed to look like when it works. Of course, I didn't realize that it was "fake", so after removing the tab, it works great. I felt like an idiot and was glad that I hadn't taken it back to the store. The least the manufacturer could have done was to tell me to remove it!
