IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It's the middle of November already! I looked at the calendar the other day and was shocked to see that next week is Thanksgiving! I didn't panic because the whole family is having dinner at West Linn with Lara and Greg this year and guess what? We don't even have to cook! Instead, we are having one already cooked and delivered. I have never heard of a take-out Thanksgiving dinner before and it will be very interesting. I am sure our ancestors would roll over in their graves if they only knew. I will miss the leftovers and making turkey soup, however. I think I will get a turkey anyway and keep it frozen for the future because I could eat turkey any time.

We had to go into town for a few games last week. Yeah, three games in four nights. Both Dave and I were a little tired after all of that. But everything went pretty smoothly and we did get to leave our equipment set up between games so that meant we got to go home a few minutes earlier (11:15 PM instead of 11:30 PM) and because we got to keep everything in we didn't have to arrive as early to set up for the next broadcast (although Dave gets a little antsy and wants to be in there early anyway). The Blazers are playing games on the road now, so we are home for a few days.

Dave the Ham When we got home from the games, we turned right around and went to a cast party for the theater group that Dave was in a couple of weeks ago. It was at the director's house over in Manzanita and just about the entire cast showed up. They had a great time going over their lines once again and telling each other how great they were! We did get a CD with a lot of photos from the performances. This one is of Dave fanning himself with his hat because this is his big love scene, and he's supposed to be "overwhelmed". It did get a big laugh! Anyway, the party was fun and I was able to meet a lot of people I didn't know. I guess this is how you expand your social circles in a small town!

Later that night, we were hit with a huge windstorm with gusts around 50 mph! It was blowing near 90 over on the beach. We were awakened with the thud of branches hitting the roof and total darkness. The power went out about 5:30 AM, but came on shortly thereafter. I immediately got up and made a pot of coffee. I don't mind eating a cold breakfast but I do want a nice hot cup of coffee to go with it. We sat around most of the day watching the lights flicker, the wind blow and the water in Nehalem Bay rise. The island was completely under water by mid-afternoon at high tide. After everything calmed down I went outside and collected garbage can lids and other branches and limbs that had been blown away. I decided to wait until all of the leaves were down before I tried to pick up the rest of the debris.

We were getting a little cabin fever, so we ventured out later that afternoon and decided to browse the antique store in Wheeler. For those of you who haven't seen it, it takes up most of a city block and it's a great place to kill a few hours! I came home with all kinds of goodies. A real nice black leather purse, some Calvin Klein sheets for the bed, a mixing bowl to replace the one that got broken a couple of weeks ago, and a glass chimney for a Christmas decoration that I am going to make. Dave didn't find anything to his liking but I scored big time!

Grandkids I have been getting over to help my Mom as much as I can. I'm back in Clackamas again today to be with her. She fell the other day and landed on her face. She looked pretty beat up when I saw her earlier this week, a black eye and three stitches above the eyebrow. Needless to say, she broke her glasses so I will be taking her in for an eye exam later today. She needed an exam and new glasses anyway, but that's a hard way to do it. The week before that, she had chipped a tooth in her dentures so I had to get them fixed. My sister, Judy who lives near my Mom, usually does these jobs for her, but she has been recuperating from a serious staph infection, and is tied to an IV in a rehabilitation center, so everything has been left for me to do. While I was in earlier this week, I was talking to some of the residents at the assisted living place where Mom lives and I discovered that you don't ask them "How are you?" because they will tell you way more than you ever wanted to know!

Leslie with Chip Leslie came up to West Linn from Silverton on Saturday with her girls so we got to see everyone. Jason had taken the dog bird hunting for the weekend and she wanted to get away too. Speaking of that, they just acquired another dog, this one is a four-month old Chocolate Lab and they named him "Chip". I am sure they are thinking ahead because one of their dogs is getting pretty old. Anyway, when those four granddaughters (Lara's two and Leslie's two) get together, they have so much fun. I am glad that everybody gets along.

Well, that's all that I have been up to for this week. Except for my trip today, we get to stay home for a few days and won't have to go back into Portland for a broadcast until the day before Thanksgiving. We hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving holiday.

We're going to post this early. It's supposed to be stormy for the next couple of days and the wind's already up to 35 or so....
