IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jungle This has been a very wet week. It seemed like we spent a lot of time inside watching the rain come down. But, when the sun finally broke through on a couple of occasions, I was outside doing a few last minute projects, like mowing the lawn and putting my garden to bed for the winter. I also reclaimed some of our property by hacking away on the blackberry vines that were slowly invading the old church. It was a tedious job and it took a couple of days to go completely around all four sides. Some of those vines were as big around as baseball bats! By the end of the two days, my arms looked like I had been in a cat fight, and the cat won! I made a promise to myself that when spring arrives; I am going to be out there with the Roundup - trying to keep them under control.

Speaking of gardening, the Garden Gods must have been watching over for us. The sun came out long enough on Wednesday afternoon for the Park and Rec group (three of us anyway) to plant about 100 spring bulbs in our park, so next spring we will have beautiful daffodils, tulips and crocus to admire.

I have been faithfully going to my water aerobics classes each day. Now that it is fall, the sun isn't even up by the time I am, and it is kind of hard to get out of bed. Our instructor has introduced some new "toys" to our sessions. The first couple of weeks we had webbed gloves to wear. These were really neat and you could really feel the resistance in the water when you wore them. This week we got to try the weighted ankle bracelets and I don't know if I am going to like them or not. They weigh about 1-1/2 pounds each and don't seem to stay put very well, by the time the class is half way done, they are sliding around. We have had quite a few ladies join our group this session, some newbies and some returnees and by the time we all get into the pool, it gets a little crowded. Of course, everyone has their favorite spot and it doesn't take the newbies long to figure that out. Our instructor has this attitude, which is you can get out of the class what you want, so we have some various degrees of workouts going on between us. Some gals (like me) work up a sweat while some of the gals just splash around and spend more energy talking to who ever will listen to them. It makes for a fun time though.

I think I finally found the secret to how to get rid of those pesky raccoons. We had a couple of them showing up again even after I removed all the bird feeders for the night. I chased them with a broom and banged on the deck rail - all to no avail. I threw rocks and even firewood at them and they just looked at me like I was crazy. Dave shot his b-b gun at them and the b-b's just bounced off. So I decided to get out my red and white striped umbrella and when they came around this last time I got out there and opened and shut it really fast, yelling at them. They decided I must have snapped and they took off on a run and we haven't seen them since. Dave thinks the sight of a screaming woman running across the yard opening and closing an umbrella would be enough to get me committed to the funny farm - if anyone else saw me - so it must be intimidating enough to get rid of raccoons!

This is another early entry because we have to leave Thursday night for a basketball broadcast on Friday. We may have to post this even earlier because it is Thursday morning as I write this and we are in the middle of a very strong windstorm right now and it's getting stronger by the minute. The wind gauge shows over 40 MPH now. Usually, when the wind blows like this, the power goes out. So I think we will post this while we still have electricity.

Another reason we are leaving on Thursday is because my older sister has had knee surgery and is recovering from a Staph infection. They don't know how long she will have to stay in the rehab place and I have to make sure my Mom's clothes are clean and she is taken care of. My sister usually goes over and washes her clothes once a week but I will have to fill in until she gets back on her feet. We are also staying in town on Saturday because it is Lara's birthday and we are going to baby-sit the granddaughters while they go out for the evening. We are also going to watch the other two granddaughters play soccer on Saturday morning in Kaiser. I sure hope the weather is going to cooperate. Last weekend, our five-year old granddaughter, Paige called us so excited because she had a "hat trick" which means she scored three goals. Her older sister, Ashtin also plays and they only have a couple of games left and we want to be able to see one of them.

Next week is going to be really busy with something going on each day so maybe I will have something to talk about instead of just rambling away.

Uh oh... the lights are flickering!
