IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Last weekend was a complete wash because it rained the whole time and it was so darned humid outside, that it was impossible to do anything as all as your energy was sapped before you even started! I don't know where all this rain is coming from...it's always nice here this time of year. It's very frustrating because this is the time of year that we get our outside projects taken care of, and we haven't been able to do that!

Sunday we had Dave's sister Leanna over for dinner for her birthday. Later that evening we went to a dear friend's memorial at the Waterfront Park in Wheeler. Jack Abendroth had lived in Wheeler and had owned the Treasure Cafe where the food was fabulous. He and his wife Joanie had moved to South Carolina about four years ago and last year Jack was diagnosed with liver cancer and had passed away in December. Jack was the "favorite son" of Wheeler and had done a lot for the town. He was also an animal lover and made these wonderful treats for your pets called "Fuzzy Buddies" (made from yesterday's breakfast is what it said on the cafe menu). Anyway, his wife flew out from South Carolina and we held a celebration of his life where everyone came and reminisced about Jack. After the memorial, we all participated in tossing a flower into the Nehalem Bay and while we were doing so, the local herd of elk made their appearance directly across from us on the bank of the island. It was so symbolic and couldn't have been timed more perfectly.

The weather started clearing up by Tuesday, but we were leaving town to spend a few days with our grandchildren, Ashtin and Paige in Silverton. By Wednesday, the sun was out and the temperatures were in the high eighties so we spent some time in the local park and library and hit their swimming pool later that afternoon. It really felt good to bask in the sun and swim in their pool. I got a little bit of a sunburn too!

Thursday, we promised the girls that we would take them down to Enchanted Forest, which is just south of Salem. It is a storybook park with a castle, Hansel and Gretel, and Snow White, to name a few. We took them on a couple of roller coaster rides, which they enjoyed, Ice Mountain and the Log Run (yes, we got really wet!) We also went on the Bumper Cars. After that, they decided that they were brave enough to go in the Haunted House. I didn't participate in the Haunted House but was told that they practically went through with their eyes closed and clutching on to Granddad! At one point he had one in each arm while they were hiding their eyes in his neck! I hope they don't have nightmares! They also slid down the giant slide at the "Old Mother Hubbard" shoe a dozen times and that wore them out for a short while. After a stop for lunch and to pick up a pizza for dinner, we came home to enjoy the pool once more.

This has been a fun week. We've had the girls stay with us for a few days at our place, but this is the first time we've had some time with them at their home. They're old enough now that it worked out pretty good. Ashtin will be 8 in a month, and Paige is 5. Today will be our last day with them, as we are heading back down to the coast tonight. I heard it was going to start raining again beginning tomorrow - that is just my luck!

I'm posting this before we get home, and once again, the laptop isn't going to let me post pictures...so if you don't see any, I'll post a few after we get home. Come back later and check them out.
