IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Last weekend started out with rain all day on Saturday. I think I was out of the house twice, once to get the morning paper and then up to the post office and retrieve the mail. Besides that, I was all alone this weekend as Dave had left to announce the ChampCar races on Thursday and didn't return home until Sunday night. He got rained on too and was glad to get back to a warm and dry house. In fact, he was in such a hurry to get home, that he decided to leave the motorhome at the track and to pick it up later.

Sunday was a much better day, as it wasn't raining. I ran into Tillamook to get some groceries and to attend a tea at the Latimer Quilt and Textile Center. This was their annual fundraiser. The Center is both a museum and a display of living arts. It features a series of exhibits yearly, showcasing both vintage and contemporary textiles. My friend, Charlene Hakala is on the board and quite active in their pursuits. The tea was really nice and of course there were lots of sweets and savories to munch on.

collage The rest of this week has been a hodgepodge of various work projects. We finished up the storage room and since a couple of granddaughters will be down this coming weekend, we thought we had better tackle the bunkbeds. The first set took us about 3-1/2 hours to assemble and believe me, the instructions were NOT written out, just a diagram. I've mentioned this in the past, but these beds came from IKEA, and they're about as Swedish as they come. So they don't bother to write out instructions, they just give you a set of drawings. We managed to get all the pieces together and used all of the various screws, bolts and nuts that came with it. Every one of them! Don't you just hate it when you get all done putting something together and you have a couple of parts left? We did manage to lose a wooden peg and spent some time on our hands and knees searching for the missing piece, but luckily we found it! The second bunk went faster, only a couple of hours and I told Dave that we were becoming such pros now we could go into business putting these things together for people. I DON'T THINK SO!! It was funny because we had just finished assembling the beds when we were watching the news and they had a feature on the new IKEA store coming to Portland. They mentioned they were hiring people to assemble floor displays and we looked at each other and said NOOOO!

Another project that I worked on this week was the Waterfront Park. This week it was spreading barkdust all around. We made it just in time for the Crab Festival this weekend. People won't be able to walk on the newly planted grass, but they will be able to see how much we accomplished in such a short time. I think if we had it to do over, we would have never decided to do this project, but with the help and cooperation of all our committee members we got it done. I think the village people are really impressed and we have been given a lot of compliments on our efforts. I hope we can get some pictures of the finished project this weekend while we're at the Crab Festival. It's kind of hard to get a shot of the whole park and still see the detail, but take it from me, it looks good!

Dave and I had to run into Portland on Thursday. He had a follow-up on his hearing test and was fitted for hearing aids. Thank the Lord!! He has been missing out on so much not being about to hear what is going on and to carry on a conversation has been very hard. Maybe I won't have to repeat myself so often too! He won't get them until the middle of July, but this was a good first step! His new glasses were ready too, so we stopped by the optometrist to pick them up. Then we raced across town and I got my nails done in West Linn. Since we were in the neighborhood, I called Lara and asked if she could come by the nail place. She brought Jaysa with her and she was the hit of the entire shop! She latched onto her grandfather and wouldn't let go. It was so cute, she had her cheek against his and had him in a big hug and she wouldn't let go! I'd like to have gotten a little of that lovin', but the manicurist had my hands and I couldn’t move! I'll get to see her this weekend. After that, we ate lunch before we stopped by to see my Mom. We headed back across town again and I dropped Dave off at the racetrack so he could bring back our motorhome. We each made a couple more stops and we finally pulled into the driveway around 6:15.

As I mentioned, Lara and her family will be down for the weekend. There is so much going on that it should be a lot of fun for them. Not only is the Crab Festival in Wheeler going on, there will be sandcastles in Cannon Beach and a kite festival in Manzanita. They'll get here Friday and leave on Monday morning.
