IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It rained most of last weekend so we were confined to indoors and Dave worked some more on the "supply" room in the basement. He managed to finish up the framing and so next week we move on to the next stage, which will be wiring and sheet rocking. We have been unable to find a match to the existing vinyl flooring in the hallway and bathroom. The pattern doesn't exist anymore so I will have to match it up the best that I can. Dave hurt his shoulder a few weeks ago (rotator cuff, we think) so that has been bothering him. He has a doctor's appointment next week to get that checked out.

We did have a break in the weather the beginning of the week, so I managed to mow the lawn for the first time this year. It wasn't too bad to mow, in spite of being wet from all the rain that we had. Besides, I was getting cabin fever and needed to get some exercise. I had fertilized the lawn about a week ago and I am sure that will start things growing real fast!

I counted two new chipmunks that have joined Julio at the feeder. One of them is just a baby and he still has little stripes on his back. We also spotted a hairy woodpecker on one of the trees outside our living room. Yes, there really is such a thing. We had to go to the bird book to make sure. There also were two hummingbirds that were sniffing around the feeder, so I put some sugar water out for them. It is so enjoyable to me to see all the varieties of birds that my feeders bring.

It was off to Ashland on Monday afternoon. We decided to go down the coast on Highway 101 and head east at Florence so that we would get to Cottage Grove where we had made reservations at the Holiday Inn. That was about a 5-hour drive and then it was just a couple more hours down to Ashland the next morning. We hit some snow on some of the mountain passes on the way down and when we arrived in Ashland it was really cold and rainy. There was snow on the hillside above the town. By Wednesday, the weather had turned more spring-like with blue skies most of the day. I did my usual grandkid shopping. We found some cute books for them to read and some other trinkets to occupy their time. I have so much fun shopping for them in some of my favorite local stores in Ashland. We saw four plays while down there, "On the Razzle" which was a comedy/farce, the "Cherry Orchard", a Chekov drama about life in Russia among the aristocrats when the government changed, "As You Like It" with a 1930's costume presentation (one of my favorite Shakespeare plays) and finally "Tracy's Tiger", a musical based on a short story by William Saroyan.

We left Ashland early on Thursday as we had to bee-line it back up to Portland to engineer a Blazer game that night. If you take I-5 back, it is a straight shot and you can make it back in less than 5 hours. We made it with no problems, worked the game and were "home" in West Linn by midnight. Loooooong day! We'll run errands today, and Dave has a lacrosse broadcast tonight. We're back at another Blazer game tomorrow night, so we have a busy few days.
