IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I swear...I am losing it, my memory that is. I can't seem to remember anything and have been doing strange things lately. For instance, last Wednesday, I had to go over to the retirement home to review Mom's latest evaluation and I signed the guest register as "Jan Wyatt". Hello!! I haven't used my maiden name for over 40 years; so don't ask me where that came from. Dave asked me if I was trying to tell him something! Is this what I have to look forward to?

We had a few games to work this week. Dave had a lacrosse broadcast on Saturday night and then we had an early Blazer game on Sunday so we drove home after that. Our weather has warmed up quite a bit so there isn't that dread of driving on ice and snow anymore. We counted our quota of deer and other wild animals on the way home, but other than that it was quite uneventful and we were home before midnight.

I started off the week by going to my water aerobics classes and believe me, when you don't get home until midnight, that 7 o'clock alarm comes waaay too early! But since I am a morning person, I don't mind as long as I can get a nap later on. While I am on the subject, I have really enjoyed my aerobics classes. Most of the women that attend are much older than I am, ranging from my age up to 94! Yes, we have our sweet Ruby who is 94 and doesn't look it! Anyway, our instructor is very patient with us while some of the ladies are carrying on conversations with one another in the back row and not paying any attention to what is going on, she is up front trying to get us to move. The philosophy seems to be - you can go at any rate of speed you want - and believe me, some of them don't want to move too fast!

We also had SMART on Monday, so most of the day was unproductive as far as work around the house. It's always rewarding to help those kids with their reading, but the hour we do that is right in the middle of the day, so it's tough to get anything else done that day.

I did manage to spend some time on Tuesday clearing the rambling rose that has taken over most of the area along the house. I figured it is better to tackle it now while it hasn't grown much, rather than later on when it is in full bloom. I got a few scratches, but managed to get most of it under control. Now I can prune the bushes that the roses were growing on. I tell you, things can get out of control pretty fast when the weather starts to warm up. There are already signs that spring is just around the corner. I don't know if I am wishfully thinking that or not, but I noticed my daffodils are about 2" out of the ground. The birds have been singing and building nests too and that is always a good thing.

I also had Garden Club this week and we spent most of the meeting planting Sedums for our plant sale (things like Hens and Chicks for those who would like an idea what a Sedum is). Everyone brought extra plants that they had thinned out in their yards and pots to plant them in. Our Garden Club has their annual sale in May, so we start preparing for it now. It is a lot of work but It is a big success and last year we made over $4,000, most of which we gave to various charities in the community.

Let's see, on Wednesday we headed back into town for another Blazer game. We had planned on coming back home the same night. We'll do that on a Sunday night because the games start earlier, but most of the time we stay in town after the weeknight games, mainly because it's so late when we get out of the arena. This time, we really wanted to get back home and take advantage of the nice weather. We decided that it wouldn't be too late and that we would make it shortly after midnight. Wouldn't you know it? The game went into overtime, so it was after 1:00 AM before we rolled into the driveway. I once again dragged myself out of bed the next morning and went to my water aerobics class. Don't I deserve some kind of medal?

With all this driving back and forth, our car gets pretty dirty. We even have to replace the windshield as a rock flew up and hit the window a couple of days ago and left a pretty good size chip which is starting to spread. In our part of the country, when there is snow and ice on the roads, they spread gravel for traction. It works great, but when the snow melts, every car that passes you showers you with loose gravel. Windshields don't last long around here! Anyway, I spent a good part of the afternoon washing the grit and grime off of the car. It took two washings to finally get down to the paint color! It should be good for a couple of trips into town and then it will get dirty again. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.

The Blazers go on a few road games next week and we'll get a break. We will be home for a while, so hopefully we will be able to get a few of our projects done. I made Dave dismantle the fence that had halfway blown down in one of our windstorms. The posts had rotted and there was nothing to hold it against the wind. We will replace the posts and hopefully we will get the fence back up this week. Dave has been busy putting his woodshop together and we need to move forward on our plans to build a storage room in the garage. There is always something to do around here.

Only 12 more days until we leave for Arizona! We've been watching the weather in Phoenix and it hasn't been a whole lot warmer than it is here right now! The 10-day forecast does show the temperature down there getting up into the 70's next week, so there's some hope. Come on, Arizona...you have 2 weeks to get your act together! I want some sunshine! Knowing my luck, we will have nicer weather here at home while we are in Arizona.
