IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

We have been gone all week and it sure feels good to be back home again.

Last Wednesday, Dave and I went back into the big city, as Dave had to announce the Champ Car races over the weekend. We attended the media breakfast on Thursday morning where the announcing crew received the Rolla Vollstedt award. This is a service award that is presented each year to the person - or in this case, persons - who have done a lot to help local racing in Portland. Afterwards, I dropped Dave off at the racetrack where we had the motorhome parked. He lived there until Sunday, after the races. I went over to visit with my Mom and have lunch with her and then stayed at Lara and Greg's place for the rest of the weekend enjoying my grandchildren.

One of the reasons that I came in with Dave was to attend the awards breakfast and on Sunday I wanted to go to a memorial service for our old neighbor who had passed away. Jim Brewer was one of the better people on this planet. We were blessed to live across the street from Jim and Beverly for 30 years when we lived in Hillsboro. Dave was working, so Lara and Leslie went with me and it turned out to be quite a crowd of people who came to pay their last respects to a great person.

Kah-nee-ta Kickin’ Back Big Money On Monday, Dave and I headed for some much-needed R&R over at Kah-nee-ta Hot Springs Resort, which is on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation over on the other side of Mt. Hood. The kids had given us a one night stay for our anniversary last fall, and we decided to hang on to it until the weather got better. We added another night because it takes about 5 hours to get over there from our place at the coast and we didn't want to be rushed. So we just relaxed around the pool and soaked up the sunshine for a couple of days. The temperature was a perfect 75 degrees. It can get pretty hot over there on the other side of the mountain - especially during the summer - and they often boast of only getting a couple of days of rain a year. We also gave some money back to the Indians as they have a casino there. We entertained ourselves with the one-armed bandit nickel machines and I came out about even. I would spend five dollars and then win five dollars back. I think I lost a total of 50 cents for about 4 hours of fun. Dave hit a really big jackpot (well it was only $18.50, but on a nickel machine, that's not too bad) but I don't think he came out too far ahead. We are NOT big gambling people but enjoy it once in awhile if we can entertain ourselves for a few hours. We had such a good time while we were there that we decided we would come back again next year.

We literally drove from Mt. Hood to the Coast on Wednesday. That is about a 150 miles. I dropped Dave off at the race track to pick up the motorhome and then I ran a bunch of errands before I headed back to the beach. Dave had a meeting out at the racetrack and was about an hour and a half behind me when he hit town. It was good to be back in our own bed. Thursday I spent most of the time getting caught up with the laundry and yard work. I got the lawn mowed and did some more weeding. I also gave my plants a much needed soaking as they were getting pretty dry from all the windy weather that we have been having. All the bird feeders were empty so I filled up them up in hopes that the birds will come back. Sure enough, our little chipmunk was the first of arrive and was out gorging himself when a few goldfinches came back. It doesn't take long for the word to get out that the Bell's are back.

Dave has to go back into town today to engineer a football game, but he is coming back tonight. I plan on cleaning the house as Lara's family is coming down for the weekend. They picked a good weekend as we are expecting a "heat wave" for the beginning of next week. It'll be 100 degrees at their place in West Linn. We may see 80 down here. That's extreme for us! I sure hope it stays around for the 4th of July.
