IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

This week it was time to make our bi-monthly trip to the recycle center in Manzanita. Oregon is known as the recycle capital of the world and we try to be good Oregonians and recycle EVERYTHING. In fact we had special drawers built into our utility room last year to accommodate the four recycle bins. There is one bin each for glass, tin and aluminum, plastic and paper and magazines. We also get a 5-cent deposit on all beer and pop cans too. What a person will do for 5-cents is amazing! I've said this before, but we see so many cans worth a nickel each along the road that we're threatening to get our exercise by walking the shoulder of the road, collecting cans. Our girls have threatened to disown us if we actually do that, so we're just thinking about it. Still, it's easy to drive up Highway 53 and count cans at 5-cents each! So anyway, this week it was off to the recycle center to contribute our trash. I have also been saving Campbell Soup education labels for my oldest granddaughter who is collecting them for her school. Anyway, while I was at the recycle center, I noticed someone had thrown away a soup can with a label still attached. I immediately dove into the bin to retrieve it and had Dave remove the label. Please understand, I normally don't go looking into trash containers for stuff, but one can't pass up an education label for her granddaughter, can she? Dave wanted to know if I was going to doing in more dumpster diving to look for more . I don't think so.

Our weather has been very stormy this week so I spent most of my days stuck in the house watching the weather station. Wednesday night was especially nasty as we had more high wind gusts that knocked out our power around midnight. I am sort of getting used this by now and I just roll over in my nice warm bed and go back to sleep. But when we do lose power our computer battery backup takes over and all I can hear is this beep, beep, beeeeep!!! I finally stumbled out of bed in the dark and made my way down to the computer to quiet its obnoxiousness. I didn't have my glasses on so I was trying to close all the programs that Dave had left on before I shut the computer down. I forgot the battery window and as soon as I got back into bed that darn thing continued to beep and I was so frustrated I wanted to throw it out the window!!

Thursday, we had to head back into town to engineer a Blazer game. It had been snowing over the Coast Range, so it was kind of a slow drive in. The snowplows were out and we did see one car that had slid into the ditch. The driver was still behind the wheel and it looked like it had just happened. When we're heading into town for a game, we don't have any time to spare, so we didn't stop to see if he was okay. We did feel a little guilty about that, but the car didn't look to be in any real danger and there was a snowplow coming along in a few minutes, so it didn't bother us for too long. We have four-wheel drive but that doesn't guarantee that we won't slide, too. We just have to watch out for the other guy most of the time. We did pretty good; it only took us about 20 minutes longer than an average trip to town, but Dave was ready to get out from behind the wheel when we got to the arena!

I sure hope the weather clears up by Saturday as we have to journey up to Seattle for the annual Steam Society dinner. We are planning to spend the night up there and then high-tail it back to Portland for a Blazer game on Sunday night. After the game, we will hopefully go home for the night, as on Monday we will head to Ashland to see some plays at the Shakespeare Festival. We really wouldn't have to go home before leaving for Ashland, except that we are scheduled to do our weekly volunteer thing, reading to kids at the elementary school, and unpack one suitcase and pack another! It will be a busy week for us.
