IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Rainbow It looks like March came in like a lion, as it has been so windy and rainy these past few days so maybe the month will leave like a lamb. But then, when I stop and think about it, I guess I really don't care whether it is nice here at the end of the month or not because we'll be in Arizona! I am watching the weather in Phoenix. They have had something like 5 months with no rain. Now that's too much, even for them, and I'm sure they need it - but if it rains while we're there, I won't be happy! Living in Oregon has us used to the rain, and being exposed to the coastal weather gives us even more, and it's kind of nice - up to a point. But by this time of year, I'm ready to see the Arizona sun, and I'm not going to be interested in being part of the end of a history-ending drought! The sun did make an appearance here yesterday afternoon and left us a nice rainbow. It was that time of day between heavy showers in the morning and a break in the weather in the afternoon. We have had so much rain that when the sun does shine it is so appreciated.

The eagles have landed! The other day I was checking out the island in front of our house with the telescope when I spied a couple of eagles on a fir tree. They have been seen now all week and I am hoping that they will be nesting soon so I can keep an eye on them. It's that biggest tree just to the left of the rainbow. Speaking of birds, I defrosted the birdbath the other day so the birds could enjoy a bath and a drink of water and I caught four robins taking turns at the old watering hole. I guess when it does nothing but rain around here you have to watch something besides the grass growing!

Robins We spent the weekend in town as we had a couple of Blazer games to work. After running a few errands on Saturday, we drove down to Salem to watch our oldest granddaughter, Ashtin play her last game of basketball for this season. We had seen the first game and we could sure see an improvement over the season. They are mostly learning the game so there isn't much competition going on. In fact, I don't even know if they keep score. The referee has been great with the girls. He stops the play and explains what they should have done. In fact he makes sure everyone gets a chance to make a basket.

Back at their house after the game, I had Ashtin read to me from her library books and I was delighted how well she does even though I have to say so myself. She even seems to comprehend what she is reading too. Dave and I have been helping out with the SMART program at the local school and Ashtin is a great reader compared to the other first grade kids that we have been helping. But that is why these kids need the extra help too. They were telling us that a child learns to read the first three years of school and after that they read to learn. So if they haven't got it mastered by the third grade, they will be struggling to keep up.

Jake at breakfast While we are in town, Jadyn always comes down to the basement in the mornings so she can have her breakfast with Grandma and Grandad. She is so entertaining and we are amazed at her vocabulary for an almost three year old. She has to count our vitamins before we can swallow them and she makes such a game out of it. Both girls have been sick with colds and of course we always seem to come down with it, or should I say come up with it as the cartoon below suggests. I have been fighting a sore throat all week. It took Dave three weeks to get over his cough that he had picked up. But you just can't help but want to cuddle them when they aren't feeling very well. Jaysa has been busy cutting teeth so you don't know if she is sick or just teething. She is nine months old and has three teeth so far.

Baby Blues I had my garden club meeting this week and we had a speaker telling us all about herbs. It got me all inspired to grow my own herb garden, which I have always wanted to do. I think some nice lavender; lemon sage, chives and rosemary would be nice. I think this spring I will try to do that.

We had to go back into town on Wednesday afternoon for another Blazer game and we decided to come back right after the game as Dave had a meeting to attend on Thursday morning. We didn't get home until 12:30 AM and we both had to get up early in the morning so we were dragging all day. Anyway, it is back into town on Saturday as Dave has a Lacrosse game to engineer. I think I will go along just for the ride and drop him off for him to do his thing and I will go do my thing. At least this game is in the middle of the afternoon, so we'll be home at a decent time in the evening!
