IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Snow Just when you think spring is just around the corner, a cold front moves in dropping temperatures below freezing...burrrr!! I had to scrape the ice off the windshield of my car a couple of times this week too. There was snow mixed with rain and some light dusting of snow up on Onion Peak and Neah-kah-nie Mountain. I know, this may be no big deal for some of you, but this sort of thing just doesn't happen here! Wind and rain, yes - but not cold and snow! We had some really nice weather over the weekend so I guess I wanted spring to get here. I planted some sugar peas outside and turned the earth in my garden spot. Mother nature has a way of fooling us now and then, even the daffodils, forsythia and flowering quince are all in bloom and they think spring has arrived. They're talking about temperatures in the teens this weekend, and for us along the coast that's like the Arctic!

Oh, I might add that I also saw a flock of Robins the other day. Don't they know either? Our bird feeders have been keeping us entertained by the visit of a variety of our feathered friends, including the little Chickadees, Varied Thrush, Towhee, Flickers, House Finches, Sparrows and the permanent resident Blue Jays. They have been singing up a storm too so it must be mating season as I saw a couple of birds going in and out of the birdhouses.

My daughter Leslie called the other day. They were taking the family camping last weekend and discovered that with all the wet weather that we had had this winter caused their fifth wheel to leak. I mean really leak! Water must have been pouring in there and it was completely ruined inside. Then because it was sitting in storage while it was wet, they have mold on everything. They even had mold in the cupboards. She said it took about three hours of scrubbing to get the place decent enough to use for the weekend. All this was after they had the trailer in to get this same problem taken care of last fall. She called the dealership and found out that the warranty was still good so maybe they will replace the whole rig. That's what they told the dealership they want. I sure hope they get something taken care of as they enjoy camping very much and they can't use it the way it is.

Leslie also was telling us about the experience that Jason had this week. He is a sergeant for the Woodburn Police Dept. and they were in pursuit of a vehicle on I-5. The guy ran a stop sign in Wilsonville and then took off when he saw the police. Jason was setting up the tire strip on the highway to puncture his tires when shots rang out. It was a scary moment for him and so he called Leslie at 4:00 a.m. to let her know what was happening first before she heard it on the news. I think maybe Jason could have waited a couple of more hours to wake Leslie up, as she wasn't going to be turning on the news at that hour anyway! I guess the juices were flowing too hard to think about that!! Anyway, he's fine and it all turned out ok except for the guy they were chasing, who ended up shooting himself.

Bad Tree I had a real nice Valentine's Day with a beautiful card and dinner out with my sweetie. It was just up at the local restaurant here in town, but I didn't have to cook so that made it special. Gotta love that guy!!

Lara, Greg and the girls are planning to spend the weekend. I hope the weather doesn't spoil their plans...we may get some more snow. They would like to get out and do some crabbing. Dave has been working on the fishing boat all week trying to get it ready for them. It's ready, but if the temperature is below freezing, the crabs may be safe this weekend! We do have some chain saw work for Greg. This tree has been blocking our view for years, and Dave & Greg are planning to "open the view" sometime over the next couple of days. Hopefully, I can do a "before-and-after" picture next week.

GIVE ME A BREAK!

Our cable television was out AGAIN!! It seems like either the power or the cable has been out a lot lately and it always happens just when I want to watch something. Not that I watch a lot of television but I do have my favorites. I missed an episode of "Desperate Housewives" once and then there are the usual game shows, "Jeopardy" and "Millionaire" that I like to watch. So that doesn't set well with me when the cable is out. Anyway, I usually don't bother to call, but this time I had had it!! Finally after a 5-minute wait on hold the gal came on the line and I told her the problem, which she said she would put a top priority on it. That was fine, but then she turns around and proceeds to try to sell me a movie package for the cable. Are you kidding me?? Now if you were without your usual cable and someone was trying to sell you a movie package, what do you think you would say! As usual, I didn't really tell her what I thought because I didn't think fast enough. You get to listen to me rant instead! Anyway, the cable didn't come back on until the next day. So much for "top priority".
