IT'S ALMOST FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Actually, we have a game Thursday night, and so we'll probably post this a day early.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We spent a quiet Christmas Eve at home drinking hot buttered rums and listening to Christmas music and then on Christmas day, we drove into town, picked up my Mother and went to Leslie's house for dinner and gift opening. She and my son-in-law, Jason had fixed a wonderful prime rib with all the trimmings.

I enjoyed being with all my family, especially the grandchildren. It is so much fun watching them opening their presents. One of the gifts that we received was knowing that our next grandchild is going to be another girl. Lara and Greg gave us a small box with the information on a scroll inside. Dave opened it and ever so slowly unrolled the scroll. "IT'S......A......(he was really dragging it out by this time)......GIRL! I'm one of three girls (no boys), we have two daughters and now there will be four granddaughters, and we couldn't be more pleased. We keep telling ourselves that we wouldn't know what to do with a grandson if we had one!

Sunday was our only day to get any shopping done, so we decided to face the crowded mall on the day after Christmas and off we went. It was so crowded and we had to drive around looking for a parking space for quite a while. Dave thought we could win the lottery before we found a parking spot, but we finally found one out in the "south 40" and walked a ways to the mall. We bought ourselves a weather station for Christmas. It was on sale and now we won't have to guess; we will really know how hard the wind is blowing and how much rain we have had. We also bought an intercom for the house. Now instead of blowing the steam whistle for Dave to come for dinner, I can just talk to him on the intercom. We also took in a movie, "The Aviator", which was really good. We are becoming quite the moviegoers the last couple of weeks. Two movies in two weeks! That's a two-year allotment for us! Looking back on the day, I'm not sure we really needed to go shopping on the day after Christmas and I'm not sure we needed to see the movie on the weekend it opened to a limited engagement, but I'm glad we did both!

Dave had a Blazer broadcast on Monday and we brought the two older grandchildren back down to the coast with us on Tuesday. Wednesday, we drove up to Seaside and took them on the carousel; visited "the" candy store in Seaside and went to the aquarium, where they fed the seals. We also managed to make it out on the beach to play in the sand and water between rain showers and there wasn't any wind on the beach, so it was actually pretty nice. You'd think that we'd be better-qualified grandparents and remember to bring the camera when we're doing a "day out" with the grandkids! We didn't, and so we had to resort to using the cell phone camera to get those shots. Oh well, at least I'm back to getting some pictures on this page, fuzzy or not! After all that, we stopped at McDonald's for "Happy Meals" and then came home. Paige, our 2-1/2 year old, could hardly keep her eyes open for the ride home. She was slouched over in her car seat with her eyes closed, and when we'd holler "Paige, wake up", (we were trying to keep her awake so she'd sleep when we got home) she'd insist that she wasn't tired. She lacked a little credibility when she couldn't even get her eyes open while she said that! We've really enjoyed them while they've been here. Ashtin has turned into a master "Uncle Wiggly" player, winning six out of nine against her grandparents! And talking like a hustler all the time. She can talk as good a game as she plays! As I've said before, Paige is talking more and more each time we see her. Last night, I gave her some blank paper and some crayons to keep her busy. Later she came up to her grandfather and told him one crayon was "broken" and "wouldn't work". It turned out to be the white crayon! He suggested she might like the yellow one better and we never heard another word! We'll take the girls back home today as we have another Blazer game tonight. We'll be right back with them tomorrow, as we will baby-sit on New Year's Eve. A game on Saturday the 1st and then it is back to the coast for a few days before we leave for a two-week vacation to Florida. I LOVE retirement!!

We have a game next Friday and then we fly out first thing Saturday morning, so if I don't get anything written next week, everyone have a happy and healthy new year!
